(Minghui.org) A Tianjin resident was secretly admitted to prison without his family’s knowledge after his appeal for the reconsideration of his three-year term for practicing Falun Gong was turned down by the higher court.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
When the police ordered Mr. Wang Wenguang to the police station on November 9, 2019, he refused to go, so they arrested him the next day and held him in custody.
Mr. Wang stood trial on March 11, 2021, in the Wuqing District Court. His two lawyers entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. The judge sentenced him to 3.5 years with a 4,000-yuan fine in late May.
Mr. Wang’s lawyers visited him at the Wuqing District Detention Center on May 31 and filed the appeal for him afterward.
When Mr. Wang’s family went to the detention center to make a cash deposit for him in December, they were told that he had been transferred to Binhai Prison over a month before. The family then went to the prison to visit him. The guards turned them away and also didn’t let them call Mr. Wang, with the excuse that he refused to renounce Falun Gong. The family didn’t receive the verdict from Tianjin Intermediate Court that ruled to uphold Mr. Wang’s original sentence until late December.
