(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province resident became mentally disoriented after enduring ten months of abuse at a detention center, for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Huang Zuoping, a retired electric furnace factory employee, was arrested on November 10, 2021, while talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was tried by a local court in May 2022.
Ms. Huang’s family learned in late September 2022 that she had a mental collapse after being tortured at the Nanchang City No. 1 Detention Center. She has been released at the time of writing. It’s not clear whether the authorities are still pursuing prosecution of her.
Ms. Huang took up Falun Gong in 1998. Her severe insomnia that sometimes kept her awake for a week at a time soon disappeared. Because of her persistent efforts in raising awareness about the persecution since 1999, she has been given three labor camp terms. She was shocked with electric batons, forced to work without pay, and beaten until her body was covered with bruises.
In addition to the labor camp terms, Ms. Huang was also sentenced to four years in prison after she was arrested on July 3, 2009 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She became mentally disoriented after being tortured at the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison. While she recovered by resuming Falun Gong practice, her mental disorder relapsed following her latest arrest.
