(Minghui.org) I was a very sickly and frail child. I had poor digestion and suffered from neurasthenia since the age of seven or eight. I couldn’t sleep well year-round. It was so bad that when I took a nap, I’d get a headache and vomit.
My parents, who were doctors of Chinese medicine, had tried all treatments, but to no avail. Even in my 20s, I weighed less than 80 pounds. I was so weak that I’d even have difficulty walking in headwinds.
After I graduated from nursing school, I worked in a hospital. I was picky in finding a boyfriend and so remained single for a long time. However, my mother soon fell ill. One of her dying wishes was to see me married before she passed.
To please my mother, I reluctantly married a poor villager introduced by my cousin, thinking that I would simply divorce him after my mother passed away. But what I didn’t expect was that I would become paralyzed after I gave birth to my daughter.
Since my husband worked in a coal mine, I moved to live with his mother in a small earthen hut. My eldest brother-in-law was mentally disabled and had a mentally ill wife. My mother-in-law was also ill. The whole family lived a difficult life.
My daughter was born on a sweltering July day. Three days after her birth, I developed pain all over my body and could only lie on my back. Afterwards, I became paralyzed—I could no longer leave the bed.
I was malnourished and could not breastfeed my baby. I had to feed her infant formula. My husband worked for a small mine and did not earn much, so the formula took up most of his income. My family thus could only afford to eat cornmeal mush and plain rice porridge throughout the year.
I cried all day and lived in a state of constant despair; I felt like a person wandering the desert with no hope of escape. If it were not for my little daughter, I would have taken my own life.
One day, my husband brought home a DVD that explained how the Chinese communist regime produced the “self-immolation” propaganda video to smear Falun Gong.
Because I had been indoctrinated by the regime, I did not believe the DVD in the beginning.
My husband pointed at the screen and said to me, “Look at the plastic bottle between the legs of the self-immolator. A plastic bottle even cannot hold its shape when you fill it with hot water. How can it still be intact in a fire that hot?”
Although what he said made sense, I still couldn’t believe that our government would lie to us.
One day in March 2004, a Falun Gong practitioner in our village came to visit me. She said, “You are so sick, and have no money for medical treatment. Why don’t you practice Falun Gong? It has numerous health benefits. It will cure your illness.”
I didn’t believe her and said, “I don’t think I can do it, I can’t even stand by myself for a minute!” But out of curiosity, I asked for a copy of the Falun Gong book from her, to see whether what’s said on TV about Falun Gong was true or not.
She gave me a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Gong. Early that evening, I started to read the book. As soon as I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. I finished the whole book that night. To my surprise, I found the answer to my suffering—why I have been so sickly all my life, and why I married a poor villager.
While reading the book, I felt numb all over my body, like I was being shocked by electricity. Suddenly, I realized that I was sitting up while reading.
In the morning, I was able to get out of bed and make breakfast for everyone. My husband was flabbergasted and asked me how I did it. I happily showed him the book Zhuan Falun and said that Falun Gong took care of me.
Even though I hadn’t slept that night, I was not tired at all. I read the book one more time during the day and had deep, restful sleep the second night.
Since then, the neurasthenia that had plagued me for more than 30 years disappeared completely. My indigestion problem was also gone. Slowly, I grew my weight back to 130 pounds.
Seeing my recovery, my mother-in-law also took up Falun Gong. Her cerebral thrombosis vanished shortly afterwards.
