(Minghui.org) A Hanchuan City, Hubei Province resident was arrested outside of her home on September 14, 2022. Ms. Shu Yunlan’s arrest was approved on the same day. She is now being held at the Hanchuan City Detention Center and faces prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Shu’s arrest left her husband in a dire situation. Having suffered a stroke and now incapacitated, he had been relying on her for care. Their son who was working out of town rushed home to find care for him after Ms. Shu’s arrest.
Ms. Shu, 55, took up Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline, on May 13, 1999. Shortly after, her persistent headaches, rheumatism, and gynecological disease all disappeared.
Ms. Shu went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in December 1999, five months after the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution, and was arrested. She was taken back to Hanchuan the next day and held at the detention center for a month. She was also fined 2,000 yuan.
Ms. Shu returned to Beijing to appeal in December 2000 and was arrested again. During a one month detention at Huairou Detention Center in Beijing, she was constantly beaten, force fed, and forced to stand for long hours, including standing barefoot in the snow wearing only a thin layer of clothing.
Ms. Shu was arrested again on February 4, 2001, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials in a neighborhood in Beijing. She was held at the Tong County Detention Center for over three months. The guards interrogated her, deprived her of sleep, forced her to stand while bending down and her arms placed on the wall, as well as cuffed her to the heating pipe overnight. She held a hunger strike to protest and almost died from the force feeding.

Ms. Shu was arrested one more time on March 26, 2008, for distributing Falun Gong materials in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province while working there. She was taken to the Qiandaohu District Police Department, where the police strip-searched her and took photos of her. She was deprived of sleep for three days. The police force-fed her when she held a hunger strike. She vomited a large amount of blood as a result. She was later sentenced to three years in Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison.
