[Selected Opinion Articles] When Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance Is Attacked, Everyone Becomes a Victim

(Minghui.org) The Cherokee, one of the Native American tribes, has a story that has been passed down from generations to generations. The story goes like this:

A grandfather was telling his grandson about a fight inside himself between two wolves: One being evil and representing anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego; the other being good and representing joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

“Which wolf will win?” the boy thought for a while and asked.“The one you feed,” replied the grandfather.

The moral of the story is that we control the outcome of the inner battle between good and evil. Following traditional values such as Confucianism, people learned to be “benevolent, righteous, courteous, wise, and loyal.” With harmony between heaven, earth, and mankind, people were able to follow their conscience and they believed “good is rewarded with good” as well as “evil meets with evil.”

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) took power in 1949, the regime promoted atheism and the communist ideology of class struggle, deceit, and violence. It also destroyed traditional values and replaced them with Communist Party culture. The erosion of moral values further worsened after the regime started persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999.

A Family's Suffering

Mr. Chen Yunchuan and Ms. Wang Lianrong were residents of Canfangying Village in Huailai County, Hebei Province. After the couple began to practice Falun Gong in 1997, they and their four children not only improved their health, but also had a happy life following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

After the CCP started to suppress Falun Gong in 1999, however, the family suffered tremendously for upholding their faith. The family’s eldest son, Aizhong, was kept at the Dongbeiwang Detention Center in Beijing for 7 days. In the freezing winter, police removed all of his clothes and handcuffed him outdoors to a tree. Both his feet were buried in snow and the abuse lasted over an hour.

He faced further torture for the next seven days and four nights. The police beat him with batons, shocked him with electric batons, slapped him in the face, kicked him, and deprived him of sleep. With 300,000-volt electric batons, they shocked Aizhong on the head, in the face, both arms, inside of the thigh, and private parts. As a result, Aizhong lost consciousness several times. There were blisters all over his upper body, inside his thighs, on the face, and on the arms.

But Aizhong still refused to yield and the police sent him to Haidian Detention Center in Beijing. Despite the wounds, the guards continued to order inmates to abuse him. They removed all of his clothes, dragged him to the yard, and buried him in the snow. Several inmates then applied a torture method called “opening lock”: one inmate held Aizhong’s fingers together tightly while another person inserted a toothbrush with hard bristles and kept turning it. As a result, Aizhong’s fingers were torn open and bleeding with extreme pain.

His younger brother Aili was also arrested for practicing Falun Gong and detained at the Jidong Prison. While torturing him, the guards asked him from time to time whether he would continue practicing Falun Gong. The answer was always yes and he was tortured on a regular basis.

Because of the long-term physical abuse, Aili was in a vegetative state and lost consciousness. At midnight, the guards asked inmates to pour a kettle of boiling water on him. Aili was jolted awake due to the pain, and the guards asked again if he would practice Falun Gong. He said yes before losing consciousness again. The inmates then poured another kettle of boiling water on him.

The brothers’ younger sister, Hongping, was beaten and threatened in a labor camp by dozens of inmates day and night. After one and a half years, she lost half of her body weight. But the guards did not stop and forced her to take unknown drugs, leaving her on the verge of death with a dull look.

As if that was not enough, the siblings’ mother, Ms. Wang Lianrong, was also arrested and taken to the Huairou Detention Center in Beijing. In the name of inspection, the guards removed all of her clothes before ordering male inmates to forcibly remove the clothes of her daughter Hongping. They then shocked unclothed Hongping with electric batons.

In the end, Mr. Chen, Ms. Wang, Aizhong, Aili, and Hongping all died as a result of the persecution. Hongping was only 32.

The Chen family is not the only family targeted for their faith in Falun Gong. Close to 5,000 cases of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted to death have been documented by the Minghui.org.

Jiang Zemin, former CCP leader who started the suppression in 1999, once claimed, “Being beaten to death is counted as suicide” and “No identity is checked and send [the body] to cremation directly.” The actual death toll of Falun Gong practitioners is likely to be much higher than confirmed thus far.

Many More Victims

Even children of Falun Gong practitioners were not spared in the persecution. Ms. Liu, a practitioner from Jilin Province, went to Beijing in summer 2002 to appeal for Falun Gong. She was arrested and sent to Changping Mental Hospital. During the daytime, she could not see any doctors and there were only guards and thugs who beat practitioners. At night, she would be terrified, hearing screaming till dawn.

At night, three thugs in the mental hospital – nicknamed “big head, long hair, and mute” – would gang rape a young girl, whose parents were both persecuted to death at Changping Mental Hospital. After her parents died, the girl was raped by the three thugs at night. Ms. Liu said the girl was only 9 at the time and that the rape made the place even more like hell.

The CCP’s attack on innocent practitioners for living by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance only made more and more people lose their conscience. The evil wolf inside people as mentioned in the beginning of the article grew wild and they followed the CCP blindly in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They didn’t blink an eye when practitioners were tortured or even killed for their organs. Violating the law or abusing the law has become a norm for law enforcement, procuratorates, and the courts. Judges often called out in courtrooms, “Don’t talk with me about the law. What I said is law!” “You are right – we don’t follow the law here. So what?!”

From the news media to the entertainment industry, from the police to the courts and the justice system, the entire country has deviated from honesty and integrity. Hate propaganda defaming Falun Gong was incorporated into textbooks, tests, and even college entrance exams. Fed by such overwhelming hatred, what can we expect for future generations?

Moral decline has led to a chaotic society in China, with prostitution, drug dealing, and violence running out of control. When gangsters harm people on the street, no one dares to stop them. There have been too many stories about people’s moral degeneration.

A 21-year-old college student in Xi’an, Shanxi Province knocked down a woman while driving. Instead of helping her, he stabbed her to death so that she would not be able to record his license plate number.

A middle-aged man in Beijing had a parking dispute with a woman. He got so angry that he grabbed the woman’s two-year-old baby from the stroller and tossed the girl from the several-story-high parking garage. The toddler died.

After a young woman was kidnapped to Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, she was forced to become a sex slave to a man and his two adult children, as well as village officials. The woman was chained when she was not raped, but the father was ironically given an award by local authorities for “fostering” eight children borne by the woman.

When universal values such as Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are targeted, everyone will become a victim. To stop the endless tragedies, we have to support the innocent and reject the CCP.
