(Minghui.org) A 75-year-old woman was sentenced to two years on August 17, 2022, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Junqiao, of Dingzhou City, Hebei Province, was arrested with another practitioner Ms. Ling Di on July 7, 2021, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The police ransacked both of their homes and confiscated Ms. Wang’s Falun Gong books. While Ms. Ling was released in the evening after paying 1,000 yuan fine, Ms. Wang remained in custody and was later sentenced.
Prior to Ms. Wang’s latest ordeal, she was previously arrested on March 13, 2018, also for distributing Falun Gong materials. One officer slapped her in the face when she refused to tell them where she got the materials. With the help of her village secretary, she was released shortly after.
According to information collected by Minghui.org, at least 96 Falun Gong practitioners in Baoding City (which has jurisdiction over Dingzhou) were arrested in 2021 and another 349 practitioners were arrested. At least eight practitioners were sentenced to prison.
