74-year-old Woman Sentenced to 1.5 Years for Talking to People about Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) The family of a 74-year-old woman confirmed on November 2, 2022 that their loved one has been admitted to prison to serve 1.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Xu Yuqian, of Shantou City, Guangdong Province, was arrested on January 26, 2022, after being reported by a student for talking to her about Falun Gong. Officers from the Chenghai District Domestic Security Office ransacked Ms. Xu’s home and held her at the Chenghai District Detention Center. The local court sentenced her to 1.5 years at the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison in late June. 

Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Xu has been targeted several times for her efforts to raise awareness about the persecution. She was arrested in 2003 for distributing informational materials. She was tortured in the Shantou Brainwashing Center and Sanshui Brainwashing Center. Ms. Xu was arrested again on September 26, 2008 for talking to people about Falun Gong and held at the Chenghai District Detention Center for months.
