(Minghui.org) An 80-year-old Huaian City, Jiangsu Province resident was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A group of officers broke into Ms. Shi Shoumei’s home in April 2022 after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her Falun Gong books were confiscated. Ms. Shi tried to explain to the police that she hadn’t violated any law by practicing Falun Gong and that she has enjoyed many health benefits from the practice, but the police refused to listen.
The police submitted Ms. Shi’s case to the Procuratorate in June. After the prosecutor returned the case, the police submitted it again and pressured the prosecutor to indict her.
The court scheduled a hearing for Ms. Shi’s case in early September. She initially refused to go, but the police deceived her into going by claiming they would return her Falun Gong books to her and that the judge wouldn’t give her any prison time due to her advanced age.
After the judge sentenced Ms. Shi to eight months, the police again deceived her into going to the local detention center, saying that she would be released in three days. She is still detained at the time of this writing.
