Additional Persecution News from China – December 8, 2022 (10 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 8 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 19 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Wuwei City, Gansu Province] Mr. Zhang Youhong Sentenced to Three Years and Four Months in Prison

Mr. Zhang Youhong from Minqin County was arrested in October 2021 for talking to people about Falun Gong.

In April 2022, Mr. Zhang was sentenced to three years and four months by the Minqin County Court, and is currently being held in the No. 10 Ward of Lanzhou City Prison.

2. [Yanbian City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhao Xiumei Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Ms. Zhao Xiumei was arrested by officers from the Jinxue Police Station in Yanji City on July 19, 2021, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was later taken to the Yanji City Detention Center.

On January 28, 2022, Ms. Zhao was sentenced to three years in prison. Her family did not receive any notification about the day of sentencing. She was taken to the No. 8 Ward of Jilin Province Women’s Prison.

3. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Lu Daxin Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Ms. Lu Daxin (also known as Ms. Lu Fanglan) was arrested by police on May 30, 2021. She was held in a detention center. It was recently learned that she was sentenced to three years in prison in October 2022 and was taken to Jilin Province Women’s Prison.

4. [Yingshan County, Sichuan Province] 80-Year-Old Ms. Zhou Yuanzhen Sentenced

On the afternoon of September 27, 2022, Ms. Zhou Yuanzhen, 80, was sentenced to 10 months and fined 1,000 yuan. The Yingshan County Procuratorate prosecuted her for clarifying the truth about the persecution on May 28. She will serve a 1-year term outside the prison.

On November 17, five officers from the Chengnan Police Station broke into Ms. Tang Suqing’s home, ransacked the place, and confiscated her computer and truth-clarification brochures.

5. [Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Case Against Mr. Chen Yinru Brought to Court

Mr. Chen Yinru, 68, was arrested in October 2022 while distributing truth-clarification materials in his hometown Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. He returned home. At the end of November, Mr. Chen’s case was brought to the Yancheng City Court, which would hold a trial soon.

6. [Yingshan County, Sichuan Province] Elderly Ms. Cai Zefang Harassed

Six or seven people from the Sui’an Sub-district Administration Office, the Sui’an Police Station, and the Zhongcheng Community went to Ms. Cai Zefang’s younger brother’s home to harass her. Ms. Cai is in her 80s. They pressured her to write a guarantee statement not to practice Falun Gong, and prohibited her from going out to clarify the truth.

They told her to move out of her rented house. They also tracked down the source of funds she used to pay for the rent. Some time ago, people from the residential community and the police station went to Ms. Cai’s rented home to photograph and videotape her.

7. [Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province] Mr. Wang Yongli and His Wife Arrested

Mr. Wang Yongli and his wife from the Fashite Company were arrested and taken to the Efanggong Police Station around 8 p.m. on October 21, 2022, and their home was ransacked. They were released the next evening and returned home.

A few days later, director Wang of the Zaoyuan Police Station, residential officer Zhu Yi and two other people went to Mr. Wang’s home. They took pictures and videos. The couple was told that if they practiced the exercises at home and did not go out to tell people about Falun Gong the police would leave them alone.

At around 9:00 a.m. on December 6, Mr. Wang was sleeping after working the night shift. He was awakened by a phone call from a security section staff member at his work unit, who told him that higher authorities asked them to check on Falun Gong practitioners to see what they were doing.

8. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Li Tianying Harassed

Li Tianying (gender unknown) from Wenjia Village, Longfeng Town, was on her way to sell vegetables in Longfeng Town with another practitioner on the morning of August 3, 2022. They were stopped by twelve people, including 610 Office members and police officers.

Li was taken to the village office, where they took and tested Li’s blood samples. They pressured Li to agree to not practice Falun Gong, which Li refused.

9. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Several Practitioners Harassed

From June 2022 until now, Laizhou City Political and Legal Affairs Committee, the 610 Office, police and related organizations in the Yantai area have continuously harassed and persecuted local Falun Gong practitioners.

Based on incomplete statistics, the practitioners who were harassed in urban areas are:

Shi Jiaxiu and other practitioners were lured by the police to the police station to sign three statements;Mao Chonghui, Wang Xinting, Zhan Jiafen, Du Yanhua, Liu Baoxin, among others, were harassed at home;Liu Xixing and other practitioners’ homes were ransacked by officers from township and town police stations;Du Aili, Li Hongxia and other practitioners were harassed over the phone.

10. [Shanghai] Ms. Zhou Meijuan Monitored

Ms. Zhou Meijuan from the Anting Xinyuan Residential Community, Anting Town, Jiading District, was monitored by surveillance cameras and other means between December 1 to December 6, 2022, immediately after the death of former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin.

On December 2, Ms. Zhou found a young man sitting in the inner room of the gatehouse at the entrance to the community, with a 21-inch monitor in front of him. It was showing a full screen, live scene of Ms. Zhou’s ground floor lobby.

On December 3, she noticed two men were monitoring the ground floor lobby of her building. She immediately called the 110 Response Unit. The 110 Response Unit sent an auxiliary police officer from the Anting Police Station, who came to the gatehouse. A community security guard said that a child was messing around with the computer. The guard turned off the screen which displayed close-up scenes of the lobby of Ms. Zhou’s building.

On December 4, Ms. Zhou passed by the gatehouse and found that the close-up, full-screen scene of the ground lobby was being displayed again.

On December 5 and 6, the full-screen, close-up scenes were still being displayed. There were two more people, a man and a woman, in the gatehouse. These two people were in the gatehouse to monitor Ms. Zhou during the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October 2022. They hid themselves in the inner room. When the security guard on duty saw Ms. Zhou leaving or returning to the community, he would yell out to tell the two people either “she went out” or “she came back.”

On the evening of December 7, the full-screen, close-up scenes of the ground floor lobby of Ms. Zhou’s building were no longer displayed on the screen.
