(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old Santai County, Sichuan Province, resident has been repeatedly tortured by guards in the Jiazhou Prison while serving time for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
While Mr. Chen Ming was doing Falun Gong meditation on his bed one morning in September 2022, the inmates reported him to the guards. The guards then brought Mr. Chen to a place without a surveillance camera and beat him.
With Mr. Chen handcuffed behind his back and shackled, the guards slapped him in the face and sprayed pepper-infused water on him. Mr. Chen’s hands became swollen and he almost fainted.
For the next month, the guards forced Mr. Chen to stand for long hours every day. He was still handcuffed and shackled. To increase his suffering, the guards also forced him to wear a heavy hat and keep a metal ball in his mouth. The guards spread rumors that Mr. Chen had renounced Falun Gong in order to influence other practitioners, when in fact he never did.
This isn’t the first time that Mr. Chen has been tortured in the prison. Because he refused to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong in September 2019, Li Dan, head of the ninth ward, and Shao Lin, head of the education section, ordered head inmate Kang Yaolei and three other inmates to “work on” Mr. Chen. Kang scooped boiling water with a big spoon and poured it over his head. Mr. Chen said later that it felt as if his head was being stabbed by countless needles at the same time.
As Mr. Chen still refused to write the statement, Kang and a few other inmates dragged him to a water heater the next morning and poured two full pitchers of boiling water onto his head again.
The Jiazhou Prison, located in Leshan City in Sichuan Province, is one of the prisons designated to hold and persecute male Falun Gong practitioners in the area. Previously a forced labor farm, it merged with Leshan Shawan Prison to become today’s Jiazhou Prison, with a sign hanging at the entrance which reads, “Chenma Group Co. Ltd.”
