(Minghui.org) I was admitted to a detention center in the fall of 2002 when I was 32 years old. As soon as I entered the cell, someone said, “It’s a Falun Dafa practitioner.” When she was asked how she knew, she said, “Only those who practice Falun Dafa are smiling when they enter.”
I told the inmates how I was persecuted, the truth behind the Tiananmen Square Self-immolation, the CCP’s (Chinese Communist Party) “1400 cases” was propaganda, how 36 Western practitioners went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa, and that Falun Dafa is practiced around the world. I also told them that an elderly practitioner wore out nine pairs of shoes to walk to Beijing just to say, “Falun Dafa is good” on Tiananmen Square. When Master was slandered, Dafa was attacked, practitioners were persecuted, and all the media reports stirred up hatred for Falun Dafa worldwide, practitioners just wanted to tell the truth, but we were persecuted.
They understood by the time I finished talking. In the following days, except for sending righteous thoughts, I recited poems from Hong Yin and sang songs written by practitioners. The inmates especially liked the song “Be Saved.” They also listened when I talked about traditional principles. The atmosphere in the cell became peaceful.
One day I went on a hunger strike in support of persecuted practitioners. I became paralyzed and almost died. If Master hadn’t rescued me, I would have really left this world. Other practitioners who were also on hunger strikes stayed by my side day and night and constantly called my name. My limbs were already cold and I was unable to talk but I still had a thought in my mind that I would be fine. The guards didn’t care and just told the inmates to check on me every 10 minutes. Two days later, when the other inmates protested, I was taken out and given infusions. Practitioner Aunt Zhang refused to leave me and accompanied me until she was sure that they would not subject me to force-feeding.
A large, strong woman from another cell was assigned to watch me. This woman was known to often beat practitioners, but instead of her usual arrogance, she was kind to me.
Because I hadn’t had anything to drink in over 10 days, the intravenous infusion was very painful. I wept and felt bad that I didn’t do well. The woman wiped away my tears and comforted me, asking me if it hurt. She rubbed my fingers carefully as she spoke with concern in her voice.
I hadn’t been able to open my eyes for several days. When she saw me open them, she smiled and said, “You are awake! That’s great. Why do you want to suffer so much? It hurts me to see you suffer!” I said to her slowly and with great difficulty, “Practitioners are all good people, yet we are being maligned. Please do not beat them!” She said she wouldn’t so I said, “Please remember Falun Dafa is good.” She saw that I was still in pain and said, “I will remember that. I will be transferred to another prison in a few days. I will not beat practitioners even if they order me to. Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
Hearing that, I felt relieved and closed my eyes. I knew that she had made a good choice and I was happy for her.
I was taken back to the cell but I still was not fully conscious for two more days. When I regained consciousness and opened my eyes, everyone sighed in relief. Even the person who was dismissive of practitioners smiled.
I was unable to move and had to rely on others for everything. Aunt Zhang ended her hunger strike to take care of me. She washed my face, fed me, and helped me go to the toilet. Seeing it was hard for Aunt Zhang to carry me, a young inmate offered to help. Because I was unable to sit up to wash my face or eat, an inmate sat behind me and let me lean against her.
Everyone had a smile on their face and was no longer indifferent. Inspired by Dafa, their kindness emerged and they were blessed.
Another young inmate had been detained for two years with no trial. She was depressed and often wept. After learning the truth of Dafa, she became optimistic. I had a high fever and had a hard time breathing during my hunger strike. When she was on night shift, she would cool me down with a wet towel and helped me sleep. She even asked to change to the night shift in order to take care of me. Her kindness brought her blessings. A few days after I regained consciousness, she was unconditionally released. She wept with joy.
The day she left I told her, “Your kindness brought you blessings. After you find the Dafa book, read it and tell your family and friends the truth about Dafa.” She kept nodding and said that she would. She hoped I recovered soon.
A month later I was transferred to a detention house. The case-handling staff took me. The head of the detention house didn’t want to accept me because I couldn’t walk. Besides practitioners, many of the inmates there were prostitutes. When they saw me being carried in and asked about it, I told them what I had gone through. They scolded the case-handling staff and said they were merciless. They asked, “How can you still detain her in her condition?” But they also didn’t understand why practitioners continued to practice—why didn’t they give up to avoid trouble? I told them what Falun Dafa was and why it was persecuted. I also told them stories of how people were blessed after they stopped persecuting practitioners.
In the following days, I recited poems from Hong Yin and sang Dafa songs. I chatted with them and advised them based on Dafa’s principles. They truly realized the beauty of Dafa and said they would not have been detained if they had known about Dafa earlier. Many of them wrote down the poem “Being a Human” and took it with them when they left.
Many changed during the two weeks they were detained. They became less selfish and started to care for others. One inmate who was older than me washed her fleece clothes and pants and gave them to me before she was released after seeing that I only had thin, summer clothes. She told me that she would find a regular job and stop working as a prostitute. I saw the smile on her face was very pure when she left.
One young inmate, Amei. came from a good family but became a prostitute. She was very selfish when she first came, and I had some negative thoughts about her. One day when she woke up from a nap the first words she said were from On Dafa in Zhuan Falun. I was surprised and asked how she knew it. She said that when she woke up, she just said the words. I knew this was a hint from Master. She was a person with a predestined relationship and I should not judge people.
I had a long talk with Amei. I told her about Dafa and how Dafa was widely practiced around the world. She listened carefully. In a dream I had that night, I saw her playing next to an abandoned house. Then the house disappeared and a high-rise building rose up with many lights on. I knew that her world was saved.
We practitioners decided to a group hunger strike to protest the unreasonable term extensions. We didn’t know how to inform the practitioners in other cells. Amei decided to help us. While waiting in line for meals she called out, “Those Falun Dafa practitioners are on a hunger strike and are not going to eat.” She said this several times, and practitioners in other cells also went on hunger strikes.
A few days later, they were shocked to see practitioners being beaten and taken out for force-feeding. When they returned they were covered in blood. When I was unable to get up due to the hunger strike, the other practitioners took good care of me. They thought that Dafa must really be good to have so many selfless practitioners.
They took the initiative to care for practitioners in their cells. They watched out for us when we sent forth righteous thoughts. Amei helped us to pass along the new Dafa articles to other practitioners. Once when a fellow practitioner passed out, Amei called the guard to ask for a doctor. While waiting for the doctor, Amei suddenly said loudly, “Falun Dafa is good.” I looked up and her eyes were smiling. I turned to look at the guard. The guard looked at me and smiled.
Before Amei was released, she helped me wash my clothes. She told me that she would come back to pick up another inmate in a few days and asked if I needed anything. She returned a few days later and gave us the pens we asked for.
I thank Master for saving Amei. What she did laid the foundation for her future.
In the roiling chaos of the CCP, many people have lost their moral compass. They don’t know why they live, where they came from, or where they are going. Who has the answer, who can untie the knots in their hearts? Falun Dafa, like a beam of light, illuminates the entire world, clearing the haze in people’s minds, allowing them to see light and hope! I feel lucky to be a Falun Dafa practitioner. I am happy for those people who understand the truth. I am grateful for Master’s protection every step of the way!
