(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province resident was recently sentenced to three years by the Qixia Court, one month after he was arrested at home on February 15, 2022.
While arresting Mr. Peng Yuekuan, the police pressured his wife to provide information about his practicing Falun Gong, the practitioners he had contact with and whether any of them printed Falun Gong materials at home for distribution.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
About one and half years before Mr. Peng’s arrest, he was reported by a plainclothes officer named Guo Yucun for talking to people about Falun Gong in a park on August 6, 2020. The police forcibly collected his fingerprints and released him on bail on the same day. They attempted to ransack his home, but relented when no one was at home to open the door for them.
Prosecutor Liu Yanxia later indicted Mr. Peng and judge Wang Chundong summoned Mr. Peng to the court on December 3, 2020. It’s not clear whether Mr. Peng’s recent sentencing was from the same case from 2020.
Mr. Peng began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. He credits the practice for curing many of his diseases and enabling him to become a much more peaceful person. This is the third time that Mr. Peng has been sentenced for upholding his faith, following previous two five-year terms.
In February 2001, Mr. Peng was forced to live away from home to avoid the persecution and was put on the police’s wanted list. After being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong, he was arrested in September 2002 and sentenced to five years months later by the Zhaoyuan Court without a hearing. He was forced to do the intensive labor without pay and constantly tortured at the Weibei Prison. He was emaciated and almost died.
Mr. Peng was arrested again at home on May 29, 2009. He was held in a brainwashing center and interrogated. The police took him to a detention center on June 15. He was sentenced to five years by the Zhaoyuan Court on November 9 and taken to the Shandong Province Prison on April 11, 2010.
