Thinking of My Neighbor’s Needs First and Giving Up Land Without Anything in Return

(Minghui.org) I live in a village that is situated within a city and my house faces a street with retail shops. Its superior location is admired by some of the villagers.

In 2007, we decided to renovate my one-story house into a three-story building. After completing the design and the relevant administrative procedures, we happily started the renovation.

The Renovation Project

Much to our surprise, when we just started working, the neighbor behind us was not happy about it so she came to our house repeatedly, saying that the renovation affects their privacy, the building is so tall that it casts a shadow over their house, etc., to stop us in our tracks.

We took many factors into consideration when we designed the building. Even the extent of the shadow was within the national regulations. As a Falun Dafa practitioner, I knew this must have happened for a reason, so I must put myself in the other person’s shoes to think about the problem.

Therefore, I persuaded my family to find someone to redesign the building so as to fulfill the neighbor’s requests, such as changing it to a two-story building, removing all the back windows, and leaving a gap of more than 80 centimeters between our drip eaves and their boundary. Ultimately, we ended up with a new two-story small building.

In our village, people place a lot of importance on the Fengshui of their house. After 2008 when my neighbor who was opposed to my renovation had construction done on her home, she encountered a problem with her house’s Fengshui. Unexpectedly, she came to ask for my advice. Looking embarrassed, she said, “When you built your house, I gave you many problems and was jealous of you. I was not willing to let you build your house and did not allow you to build it high or leave any windows. No matter how unreasonable my demands were, you all agreed to them. I even quarreled with you about that. However, I did not expect that you wouldn’t quarrel with me, but you even persuaded me not to be angry. Thinking back, I am really sorry for what I did to you. The villagers all said that luckily you practice Falun Dafa so you have a really good disposition.”

Thinking of the Needs of Others First

I laughed and said, “All these are things of the past. What matters brought you here today?” She said, “I’m having a big problem with my house’s construction! I am really embarrassed to talk to you, but you’re the only one who can resolve it. You know, my father and husband are gone. Before building the house, I found a so-called Fengshui master to take a look at the place and he said that the new house that I am going to build must have its main entrance match that of the opposite neighbor’s. If it’s not, something serious will happen to my child. However, in order for my door to match the opposite neighbor’s door, I will need to intrude into your house’s drip eaves area by 60 centimeters. A life is at stake. How can I not be anxious about it? Therefore, I am here to seek your help. No matter how much money you ask for, I will agree to it. Is that ok for you?”

I thought to myself: I am a cultivator who is assimilating to the new universe, which is a world where people are selfless and put others before themselves. In order to save sentient beings and validate the Fa, this little bit of loss is nothing. Therefore, I told my neighbor, “As long as your whole family is well, I won’t oppose if you take up all the space between our homes. I am a Dafa practitioner, so I will not take a single cent from you!”

My neighbor was so touched that tears welled up in her eyes. She said, “I prepared 5,000 yuan and was worried that our discussion may not pull through. In the end, you aren’t asking for a single cent. How can that be?!” She cried loudly, “The people around us all said that this discussion will never work out. How can my whole family thank you enough?!” I comforted her and said, “Don’t cry. I have already said it so I will fulfill what I promised to you.”

Awakening People about the Truth of Falun Dafa

I took the opportunity to talk to her about the truth of Falun Dafa and the wave of people quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to attain peace and safety. After that, this neighbor’s family of five used their real names to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. After that, 15 of her relatives also used their real names to quit the CCP and its youth organizations.

Repaying grudges with virtue, giving up land without asking for anything in return. This encounter became a hot topic in the village. Everyone said that only Dafa practitioners are able to do that. Later, when I entered every house in the village to clarify the truth, 80% of the villagers agreed to quit the CCP.
