(Minghui.org) A Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province resident was recently sentenced to three years for raising awareness about the Chinese Communist Party’s 23-year-long persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Gu Chao was arrested on August 10, 2021, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Several plainclothes officers ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, printer, and computer. Her husband, Mr. Liu Honghui, 62, was also arrested. Due to his physical condition, he was denied admission by a local detention center and released three days later.
Ms. Gu was held at the Nanjing City Women’s Detention Center. She stood trial at the Yuhua District Court around March 1, 2022. Her family recently learned that she was sentenced to four years and fined 50,000 yuan.
Ms. Gu began practicing Falun Gong in 2013, after witnessing how her husband’s uremia was cured one month after he took up Falun Gong in 2012. Before that, her husband, a retired petroleum company employee, had to spend over 1,000 yuan on medical treatment each month. They sold their house to pay for the medical cost, but his condition still didn’t improve. They also struggled to provide financial support to their two school-age children.
Due to years of hard work, Ms. Gu also had several ailments, including a severe heart condition, but all of them were cured after she started to practice Falun Gong.
In order to let more people benefit from Falun Gong, the couple used their spare time to raise awareness about the persecution and share their stories with people. They were arrested on November 14, 2014, and held at the Baima Brainwashing Center.
Ms. Gu was arrested again on September 18, 2017 and held at the Nanjing City Detention Center. Her arrest dealt her ailing elderly mother a heavy blow. Her condition deteriorated quickly and she passed away soon after.
