(Minghui.org) Two Jieyang City, Guangdong Province residents were taken to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison to serve time for their faith in Falun Gong on April 26, 2022.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhuang Huiqing and Ms. Chen Yonghui were arrested on November 27, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Officers from Meitang Police Station ransacked their homes and took them to the Puning City Detention Center two days later. As Ms. Zhuang had been helping care for her nine grandsons, her sons had to quit their jobs after her arrest to take care of the children. Without any other income source, the whole extended family is struggling to get by.
Between November 28 and 30, 2020, the two women’s families frequented the police station to demand their release. They explained to the police that no law has ever criminalized Falun Gong in China and that those who participated in the persecution would be brought to justice one day.
Wang Yanzhong, the police chief, said to them, “I have no problem of bearing responsibility for that.” Then the deputy police chief Ji Huazhong pushed them out.
Ms. Chen’s family also went to the Puning City Police Department to inquire about her case. The officers were very rude to them and threatened to forcibly remove them. When they went again, the security personnel directly blocked them at the door.
When the prosecutor at the Puning City Procuratorate told Ms. Chen’s family that he had moved the two women’s cases to the Jieyang Procuratorate, he also said that the families weren’t allowed to contact him again in the future.
Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhuang were later tried by the Jieyang City Court and sentenced to 3 and 2.5 years respectively.
Ms. Zhuang, 60, used to suffer from vertigo and had a tumor in her lower body. Days after she took up Falun Gong, the tumor disappeared and her other symptoms were also cured.
For upholding her faith, she was arrested in 2002, fined 1,000 yuan and detained for 15 days. The police arrested her again prior to the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and detained her for 18 days.
