(Minghui.org) Three women in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, were sentenced to prison on May 6, 2022, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Xia was sentenced to five years with a 30,000-yuan fine. Ms. Zhang Xiuling was given four years with a 20,000-yuan fine. Ms. Xing Guohua, 75, was sentenced to three years and fined 20,000 yuan.
While Ms. Zhang Xia is still being held in Zhangjiakou Detention Center awaiting the Zhangjiakou Intermediate Court’s reply to her appeal, the other two were taken to Shijiazhuang Women’s Prison on May 7.
The women were arrested between 3 and 6 p.m. on September 22, 2020, by plainclothes officers who claimed they were there to ask a few questions. They were held in the police station overnight and taken to the Zhangjiakou Detention Center the next day. Their families weren’t allowed to visit them.
The police submitted the practitioners’ cases to the Zhangbei County Procuratorate on October 21. They were indicted and had their cases forwarded to the Zhangbei County Court in March 2021.
The three practitioners appeared in court on September 23, 2021. Their lawyers pleaded not guilty on their behalf. The judge announced their verdicts on May 6, 2022.
