(Minghui.org) I took up Falun Dafa, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline also known as Falun Gong, in October 2004. Before that, I suffered severe pain in my neck and back for two years. I had to visit the hospital for physical therapy every other day. I had trouble doing any hard labor or even standing straight. One month after I learned Falun Gong, the condition was gone.
Having believed the demonizing propaganda spread by the Chinese Communist Party, my wife strongly opposed my practicing Falun Gong. She also feared being persecuted.
I said to her, “My back no longer hurts and I don’t need to take any medicine anymore. Isn’t that a good thing? I am not doing anything bad, but just cultivating my mind to be a better person.” I suggested that she read Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong, before making any further comments about it. She agreed.
It turned out my wife was drawn to the book and she read it 15 times straight. A few months later she said to me, “It’s written so well! I’m going to practice it too!”
One of my distant cousins worked in the local police department. Upon hearing about my practicing Falun Gong at a family dinner in 2022, he seriously said to me, “You absolutely cannot practice it, or your children would be affected if they wanted to join the army or go to college.”
“You are older than me and in most cases, I should listen to you. But on the matter of Falun Gong, I hope you can listen to my side of the story first,” I said to him.
I told him that in the past 17 years of practicing Falun Gong, both my wife and I have enjoyed great health without having to take any medication. If I didn’t practice Falun Gong, I would have lived a miserable life all along. As Falun Gong practitioners, we live by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I teach my children the same principles and ask them to be kind to others.
“If you say Falun Gong isn’t good, then you tell me, which path should I take? How should I discipline myself and my children? I bet you wouldn’t want me to learn the communist regime’s falsehood, evilness, and competitiveness, would you?”
My cousin stayed silent for a while. Then he said to me, “There is no way for me to convince you.”
“It’s not that you can’t convince me, but because what I said is true,” I replied.
