Heilongjiang Woman Taken Back into Custody to Serve Wrongful Term

(Minghui.org) A Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province resident was taken back into custody on March 14, 2022 to serve a prison term given three years ago for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Cong Ruimin, a 65-year-old retired power company employee, was arrested by officers of the Longnan Police Station on March 14, after the Ranghulu District Court ordered to take her back into custody. After a physical examination at Longnan Hospital, she was taken to the Dumeng County Detention Center. One month later, she was transferred to the Daqing City Detention Center, where she has been held since. Her family has been denied visitation.

Ms. Cong’s ordeal dated back to August 1, 2019, when her flagged ID triggered an alarm as she went through security check at Daqing Train Station. The police searched her bag and found some informational cards about Falun Gong. A few officers ransacked her home on the same day, confiscating her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, two computers, printer, hole puncher, paper cutter, and some blank DVDs.

The train station police and a 610 Office agent surnamed Dai promised to release Ms. Cong if she signed a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply and was brought to the Longnan Police Station. The police took her to the Daqing Detention Center on the next day and submitted her case to the Ranghulu District Procuratorate.

Ms. Cong developed a medical condition after 40 days of detention. She was found to have some intestinal problems after the guards brought her to the hospital for a physical examination on October 22, 2019. The police held her in detention for another month and released her on bail on December 3.

The judge at the Ranghulu District Court proceeded with Ms. Cong’s prosecution and sentenced her to three years with a 20,000-yuan fine on December 29, 2019. Due to her medical condition, she was allowed to serve time at home and ordered to report to the Ranghulu District Justice Bureau every month.
