(Minghui.org) An Anlu City, Hubei Province resident was recently sentenced to three years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhuo Shunzhen’s ordeal stemmed from an earlier incident in 2018. While talking to people about Falun Gong on September 18, 2018, Ms. Zhuo, 50, was seen by Cao Yazhou, the secretary of Muzi Village. Cao attempted to take her photo, but Ms. Zhuo managed to escape.
Cao then reported Ms. Zhuo to the police. A group of police officers and 610 Office agents scaled her fence and sneaked into her home two days later. They confiscated her computer, printer, Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and informational booklets. As Ms. Zhuo wasn’t home when the police came, they took her husband to the Domestic Security Office for a brief interrogation and also summoned Ms. Zhuo.
Ms. Zhuo went to the Anlu Police Department on the afternoon of September 21, 2018, and answered questions from Zhou Honghai of the Domestic Security Office, the head of the Muzi Police Station, and another 610 Office agent. She returned home at 6 p.m.
The police contacted Ms. Zhuo again on November 11 to put her on a one-year bail. They ordered her to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. Her son-in-law wrote it for her and the police ordered her to copy it.
When her bail condition expired a year later on November 10, 2019, the Anlu City Procuratorate indicated that they would indict Ms. Zhuo. Prosecutor Dong Houan suggested probation. But as she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the 610 Office and Political and Legal Affairs Committee demanded a prison sentence.
Shortly after the prosecutor submitted Ms. Zhuo’s case to the court on May 6, 2020, she decided to live away from home to avoid further persecution.
Ms. Zhuo was arrested in 2021 while in Sichuan Province and taken back to the Anlu City Detention Center. The Anlu City Court sentenced her to three years on March 3, 2022.
