(Minghui.org) The authorities would not stop harassing me because I went to Beijing to speak up for Falun Dafa after the persecution started in July 1999. My family and I have since lived in fear.
I was once held and tortured in a brainwashing center, and later in a detention center. My son worked in a different city, and if I did not call him for a while, he’d ask a friend to check on me, fearing that I’d been arrested again. My husband knew how bad the persecution was and worried that once I was put in a prison, I wouldn’t survive.
Back in 1998, the year before the persecution began, my husband committed a crime and was sentenced to a ten-year prison term. He was released early, in 2006. He told me that he witnessed how the guards tortured Falun Gong practitioners in prison. He said, “The guards would beat a regular prisoner to death and claimed that he died of a heart attack. They treated practitioners even worse.” He feared that I’d get into trouble by practicing Falun Gong.
I explained to him how wonderful the practice is, and that I couldn’t simply give up my faith because of the tyranny. He didn’t believe in anything spiritual, and did not want me to continue the practice. Seeing that I couldn’t persuade him, I could only show him the beauty of Dafa with my actions.
Besides taking good care of him, I said to him, “In the eight years you were in prison, your parents did not believe that I would stay married to you, no matter how I reassured them. They did not help me or our child in any way. I still treated them like my own parents and helped them if I could. Following the teachings of Falun Dafa, I did my duties as a wife, a mother, and a daughter-in-law. If I didn’t practice Falun Dafa, I would have prioritized my interests, divorced you, and left the child with your parents. I’d have sold the house, taken the money, and moved on with my life. I chose a tougher life that did not betray my conscience.”
Three years into my husband’s prison term, in 2001, his mother died. Her ashes were never buried because we couldn’t afford it, and her two older sons refused to cover the expenses even though they were well-off, with houses and cars in Beijing. After my husband was released and found a job, he asked me if we could purchase a grave and bury his mother. I agreed. He asked me because he feared that I wouldn’t agree, since his two older brothers had always refused to make any contribution to the burial cost.
When my father-in-law passed away in 2010, we also took care of his funeral alone and buried him next to my mother-in-law. My husband was proud that he did what he was supposed to as a son.
My husband later admitted that Falun Dafa didn’t only improve my health, which allowed me to take care of our own family, but it also broadened my heart and enabled me to keep a healthy and happy relationship with his parents and brothers.
One time he visited one of his brothers in Beijing, and it so happened that his brother’s mother-in-law was visiting too. My husband called me and said, “My brother never cared about my mother-in-law, and why should I be nice to his? What do you think?” I told him that money wasn’t an issue and we should be courteous no matter what. Getting a gift for his brother’s mother-in-law would also show his respect for his brother, I explained to him. He gladly bought a present for the elderly woman.
One thing that shattered my husband’s atheism happened shortly before his father’s death in 2010. Back then, his father was struggling with cancer and we took some time off to take care of him. I had a dream the night before we were scheduled to leave. It was noisy outside and a person came into my room and told me, “This world is vicious, and I want to go home to sleep.” That person then went into my dresser, which was shaped like a coffin at the time. I woke up in shock, feeling it was a hint that my father-in-law was in danger. We stuck around and my father-in-law passed away the next morning.
As my husband began to realize how great Falun Dafa is, he was also rewarded with blessings. He was an electrician. One day when he was examining a piece of equipment, the safety rail failed. He fell on a small space, only a foot away from an open burning furnace. His coworkers bought him gifts to celebrate his good fortune.
Right before the Chinese New Year in 2016, my husband was on his bike, and a person passing by dropped a stack of bills. He remembered Falun Dafa’s teachings I had told him. He picked up the money and caught up with the owner. The owner repeatedly thanked him and told him that the money was to pay his workers. If he lost the money, his Chinese New Year holiday would have been a disaster. When my husband told me what happened, I praised him for doing the right thing. He smiled with content.
After watching the videos made from the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, my husband said that the Chinese people have suffered too much under the Chinese Communist Party. He decided to clarify the facts with me and expose the evil Party.
The police arrested me in 2020 and confiscated our car and over 10,000 yuan in cash. They later released me on bail. My husband did not complain the entire time. On the contrary, he told me that I did well after he saw that I remained calm and refused to cooperate with the police. He said that I had not committed a crime and shouldn’t be scared.
A few months later, the police deceived my husband into going to the police station, and put him under criminal detention. Every day he recited “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” in his mind, and told the other detainees that Falun Dafa has miraculous power in healing and fitness. He also told them that the government shouldn’t control people’s spiritual belief. “The powerful Roman Empire tried to eradicate Christianity, and in the end the plagues diminished the empire, and Christianity became a popular belief.”
The authorities later released him without charges. He immediately started looking for a job to support the family. Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he said, “I knew that Master protected me, and I am so happy. They locked me in a detention center because I sided with Falun Dafa. I don’t feel ashamed. This incident only shows how evil the CCP is.”
The persecution intensified and I had to leave home to avoid being arrested. My 82-year-old mother got sick and I went to take care of her in February 2022. The police found me and put me in a detention center.
The day after I got arrested, my husband called a lawyer and the police in an attempt to rescue me. He went and got a letter of proof saying that my elderly mother needed my care and that I should be eligible for bail.
Other practitioners prepared the applications to dismiss the case without further investigation, and my husband went to the police station, Procuratorate, and Domestic Security Office to submit the applications. The officers at the Domestic Security Office threatened to arrest and torture him like a Falun Gong practitioner. Instead of backing down, he said, “I am not a Falun Gong practitioner. I am not good enough. You can’t just make me one. The practitioners don’t lie, they are honest and upright.”
In his application he wrote, “After I served eight years in prison, I came home and saw my wife waiting for me and raising our child alone in a desperate condition. What she said touched me and changed my perspective of the world. She told me, ‘Good will be rewarded and evil reaps punishment. The teacher of Falun Dafa teaches me that there isn’t just affections between a husband and a wife, but also kindness. If you see the goodness in others and treat them with kindness, then you have a bright and forgiving heart.’ I don’t believe that a person who says these words will commit crimes. Something is wrong in this society, and the prosecution process of my wife should be stopped. Dismiss the case and release her immediately.”
