(Minghui.org) When I reflect on my cultivation, I find that although I’ve been doing the three things asked of practitioners, it was often mixed with selfishness. Fortunately, Master Li arranged an opportunity for me to let go of this strong attachment.
A police officer called a relative of mine who had been cultivating halfheartedly. The relative did not say much and hung up. So I asked for the officer’s number so I could call him back and clarify the truth.
However, I felt stressed out and thought, this fear relates to selfishness; I was trying to protect myself. This was a good opportunity for me to face this attachment.
I contacted the officer and told him that I wanted to meet. On the way to the police station, my mind was filled with thoughts of combativeness, unfairness, and other attachments that were not righteous.
At the police station, I asked the policeman why he had called the practitioner. He told me that this was a “Zero-out Campaign” arranged by the police department. And said knocking on practitioner’s doors was their business. But it was up to us whether we opened it or not.
I then explained the facts about Falun Dafa and found he was really ignorant about the issue. He made some unreasonable remarks, and my attachment to combativeness arose when I talked. He responded with a threatening tone. I explained that Dafa is legal in China and challenged him to show me documents proving otherwise.
He refused to listen any further and was ready to leave. I also walked toward the door. He then tried to get someone to stop me, but no one responded, so I left.
Taking Initiative with Higher Authorities
I had made the first step in reaching out, but the result was not good. I thought I needed to take this opportunity to save more people. So I called the deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee and advised him not to persecute practitioners. He said he was not in charge, however; it was officer Zhang’s responsibility.
I found Mr. Zhang, and he received me warmly. I asked him about the “Zero-out Campaign” and told him not to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. He appeared not to know anything about the issue, so I clarified the facts more deeply.
He responded positively. I then contacted practitioners in his home town and asked them to approach his family members in the hope that they would help convince him to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its youth organizations.
Over the past 20 years of persecution, the younger generation has now become the mainstream workforce. Some of them did not even know what Falun Dafa is about. I thought: They would not have a bright future if we did not help them clear away the lies that the Party instilled in them.
My son later told me an officer called looking for me. I decided that I wanted to save him and asked my son for his number.
I kept a compassionate and peaceful mindset and asked him why he was looking for me. He said he was trying to find out if I still practiced Falun Dafa. I said, “What if I do?” He replied he didn’t know.
I calmly asked him who ordered him to do this. He said it was the Domestic Security Division. I explained that persecuting Falun Dafa is against the law and violates human rights. The CCP was also betraying the same officials they directed to carry out the persecution by investigating their prior misconduct.
I then explained that practitioners were risking their lives to save people from calamity. He listened intently.
Another Opportunity to Face My Fear
An out-of-town practitioner came to our area to hide from further persecution. I heard that his situation was problematic, and his wife did not support him.
I took the initiative to talk to him. However, I sensed a bit of mistrust for him and felt uneasy. I looked inward and found that I did not accept him as an upright practitioner. Master let me see my judgmental mindset. Apparently, I had not eliminated my selfishness completely.
As soon as I corrected myself, we came to an understanding. We shared experiences based on the Fa, and we both elevated our xinxing. I found that we needed cooperation from his wife to prevent him from being persecuted. But he was not able to talk to his wife about Dafa – she would not listen. He had always followed his wife’s arrangements. So I knew I needed to first talk to his wife and help save her.
When I contacted her, she said she did not have time. So I decided to ask another practitioner to arrange a meeting.
I went to see the fellow practitioner in the afternoon. I heard loud thunder when I pushed my electric bike out. I hesitated, but I decided to go anyway. The rain was so heavy that I could not open my eyes. But I persisted and made it. We set a time to talk to his wife the next day.
The practitioner’s wife finally agreed to meet with us. I told her the purpose of our trip and clarified the facts about the persecution. She had been deceived by the CCP and threatened, “If my husband has trouble, none of you can escape!” (insinuating she would report us).
His wife pointed at us and kept saying, “None of you can escape!” I was stunned! At this moment, Master gave me wisdom and I said solemnly, “How can you say this? We are not making any money for doing this, nor taking anything from you. We are here for your sake. How can you say such things?”
She appeared to be shocked, then her tone of voice calmed down. The evil factors behind her were dissolved. Based on considering things from her point of view, I told her some facts about Dafa, and that we were truly there for her benefit. She eventually indicated she would cooperate with us.
I later thought about why I had to face such a situation and looked within. I found that I subconsciously feared the woman’s spouse when he came asking for help. I was afraid to be reported. It was my selfishness. My impure heart was exposed.
The practitioner talked more with his wife and got her to change her attitude. He also developed strong righteous thoughts and began behaving more righteously.
I believe that Master arranged this incident for me to elevate myself so I could develop "...the righteous Enlightenment of selflessness and altruism. " ("Non-Omission in Buddha-Nature" from Essentials for Further Advancement).
Thank you, Master!
