17 Years of Imprisonment and Family Agony

(Minghui.org) When Mr. Jin Jilin was finally released in July 2022 after surviving seven years of imprisonment and torture for his faith in Falun Gong, the man in his early 50s was devastated to find that his father had become the latest member in his family to die due to the mental distress caused by the persecution.

Mr. Jin has been sentenced twice since the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, to ten and seven years. During his first hellish ten-year prison sentence, his grandmother, mother, and wife passed away one after the other due to the mental anguish from the persecution. In August 2012, weeks before Mr. Jin’s release, his brother-in-law, who had been taking care of his father and son, died in a car accident.

When Mr. Jin was arrested again in the early hours of July 2, 2015, his father was dealt another huge blow when the police threatened to sentence him again. He fell ill and became bedridden.

Mr. Jin was sentenced to a seven-year prison term by the Yuzhong County Court on June 22, 2016, and taken to the Lanzhou Prison. Because he refused to renounce Falun Gong, he was subjected to frequent solitary confinement and torture.

Meanwhile, a village official suspended the 100 yuan monthly low-income subsidy from Mr. Jin’s father, Mr. Jin Wenyu, who later lost his hearing and struggled to make ends meet and care for himself.

Whenever the lonely, elderly man could manage to stand up, he would walk to the street and sit on the sidewalk, looking at people passing by and waiting for his son to come home. In October 2018, with extreme anxiety, the elderly man in his late 70s passed away in misery, with no family members by his side.
