I have been working on the Window of Minghui project for more than a year. I improved my cultivation and my xinxing greatly during the process. I also discovered many attachments and eliminated them. I am very grateful for Master’s compassionate arrangement for me to join this project, validate the Fa, and keep up with the process of Fa-rectification.
After reading Master’s new article “Wake Up,” I felt time became tighter. I often found a day passed quickly but I hadn’t done much. I didn’t have much time to work on the Window of Minghui after reading the teachings and doing the exercises. I realized that I couldn’t waste any time if I wanted to do a good job in promoting the Window of Minghui website.
Eliminating My Attachment to Resentment
The Window of Minghui was a start-up project. We were unclear about what the project was going to do, how to do it, and each team member’s duties. I had a habit of asking questions until I was clear about what to do, so I was one of those who kept raising questions. Conflicts and misunderstandings occurred during the discussion because each person had their own opinion.
I looked inward when conflicts arose. I found that I didn’t want to do extra work or spend extra time. I discovered my jealousy when I calculated in my mind who did how much and discovered my negative thinking. I also found my attachment to comfort, but it seemed that I didn’t reach the root of my attachment.
I just had a big lesson in a previous project I was involved in and quit before I participated the Window of Minghui project. However, I didn’t look within and dig into the fundamental attachment that nourished my other attachments. I didn’t realize that I failed because I didn’t look at things from a cultivator’s perspective.
In my last job, my supervisor was one of those people who answered my questions with rhetorical questions. Although I could somehow understand that this was Master’s arrangement for me to improve my xinxing, I didn’t cultivate myself and handle the situation well. I couldn’t get along with my supervisor. I didn’t let go of my ego, always disagreed with her, and thought she should respect my opinion.
I was once tagged in a team group discussion so I felt a bit abused. Although I didn’t say anything, I didn’t suppress my resentment and thought karma. I was unwilling to cooperate. As a result, I failed this test and left the project at the end of one phase of the program, leaving regret in my cultivation.
After I left that project, I looked inward and found my attachment to self. I was validating myself in the project. I couldn’t cooperate unconditionally when my attachment to selfishness was not satisfied.
Eliminating Attachment to Self
When I started working on the Window of Minghui, I knew I must pass the test because I didn’t do well in my previous project.
The first thing I learned after participating in the Window of Minghui was that its target audience was different from that of the main Minghui website. The Minghui website has three readerships: practitioners, non-practitioners, and evildoers (those who persecute Falun Dafa). However, the Window of Minghui is mainly for non-practitioners, offering a bridge between the Minghui website and non-practitioners. Our goal was to help non-practitioners learn about the truth of Dafa after reading our articles.
The most challenging part of the project was how to make the right balance between what would attract more readers and the Minghui website’s direction. In the early stages of the project, I again experienced some tests. I found that my main problem was that I could not be cooperative.
I found that everyone has their own opinions, and I saw disagreement everywhere. For example, my team leader and the headquarters have different views regarding the project’s general direction. When we promoted the website in our local areas, we encountered misunderstandings. Within the team, every team member, of course, has their ideas of how to promote the Window of Minghui.
I was one of those whose opinions were always different from others. It seemed that I encountered the same situation with my previous project. I understood that from the point of view of cultivation, nothing is accidental.
I learned to look inward this time. I reminded myself that other practitioners’ attachments were mirroring my own problems. I knew that I should examine myself and cultivate my heart. I knew the only way to positively impact the project was to eliminate my fundamental attachments.
After searching inward carefully, I found that many conflicts resulted from my attachment to self. I was going to extremes and could not let go of myself.
Thinking of Others
Master told us,
“Because of disciples’ differences in understanding, some disciples always go from one extreme to the other. Whenever they read the Fa I have written, they take extreme actions, thereby causing new problems. When I tell you to change your human understanding, I am not asking you to maintain a human way of understanding Dafa. Yet neither should you be irrational or eccentric. I want you to be clearheaded in understanding Dafa.” (“Take the Middle Way” in Essentials for Further Advancement)
I understood that we shouldn’t attach to our own ideas when encountering conflicts. At the same time, we shouldn’t be afraid of confrontations and try to avoid them. Both ways were going to extremes. Neither way solves the problem; thus, both were irresponsible because the starting point was from self instead of thinking of others.
If we can all step back and look at the issues from the perspective of Master, then we will have compassion, and we will give up our attachments to our own ideas. This way, we will cooperate with other practitioners, which is in line with the Fa principles, and then the project will be successful.
I also realized that to achieve such a state, we must always make sure our mindsets are righteous. I also found communication is very important. I learned that it was easy to cause misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts if I didn’t take the time to communicate clearly with my team members and team leaders.
After I rectified myself with the requirement of the Fa, I passed many tests and solved many conflicts well.
For example, when promoting a famous chart, “ Elders,” the production and promotion teams disagreed about the design. They disagreed with each other, and neither party wanted to give up their ideas. They didn’t communicate directly. Instead, they argued in the group chats and caused misunderstandings. I played the role of a mediator and listened to each party. I proposed a solution and resolved the conflict after fully understanding each side.
On another occasion, I used a new app to promote our website in our local area. A local practitioner complained to our regional coordinator that this app had security concerns. Our regional coordinator ordered me to stop the promotion and delete the group in the app. I was surprised and puzzled when I received the message. Then I immediately understood that it was interference resulting from lack of communication. It would cause damage to the project if I stopped the promotion on the app. So I spent a lot of time communicating with the promotion coordinator, confirming that there was no problem with that app. We also looked inward and discovered our loophole, which caused the interference. I then explained the situation to our regional coordinator. I clarified the misunderstanding in less than half an hour.
This test occurred suddenly, and I passed it smoothly. I learned that in promoting a website that clarified the facts of Dafa directly to non-practitioners, we need to maintain righteous thoughts at all times. Any loophole may invite interference. We should eliminate our attachments of fearing troubles and confrontation and solve conflicts with compassion and righteous thoughts.
Later, under Master’s orderly arrangement, I went through many tests from within and outside the team. I smoothly grew with the team after two major restructurings.
Opportunities to Improve Our Cultivation
After the team’s restructuring, the project had a new operational model. Under the new model, the team invited more practitioners to participate in the project and we devoted more time and energy to it. However, it also tested whether we could understand each other positively and unconditionally. The old forces could easily take advantage of any team member’s loophole, especially when the coordinator was too busy to communicate with team members.
I faced tests every day. I had to look at the unexpected situation positively when this occurred. I had to stop calculating how much time and effort I should put into this project. I had to evaluate if I assimilated to the Fa. It became a test for everyone during the Shen Yun season because most coordinators in our project were the backbones of the Shen Yun promotion team. Even more difficult was making a breakthrough professionally and finding all kinds of human resources and related resources to make the whole project meet the operational standards. Everything made the overall operation and coordination difficult. All aspects of the project tested everyone’s faith in the Fa and righteous thoughts.
I realized that we should do everything arranged by Master unconditionally. We had to endure hardship. We had to improve our xinxing while facing confrontations and conflicts. We shouldn’t give up and shouldn’t slack off.
An article on the Minghui website discussed why Milarepa Buddha was able to attain righteousness in a single lifetime. Why did he cultivate so diligently and persistently? In addition to his willingness to cultivate, it stemmed from his incomparable faith in his master. As Dafa disciples, we should take cultivation even more seriously and cultivate ourselves solidly in all aspects.
We should strengthen our faith in Master and the Fa. We should firm up our righteous thoughts. And we should let go of all human notions and cherish the time that Master has given us to continue saving people because he has suffered for us.
The Window of Minghui team requested its members to remain low-key while actively promoting the website. In my current understanding, being low-key means being humble and modest. We should examine whether our thoughts are on the Fa at all times and how we can do better. We should do everything we can when other team members don’t do well. We should melt ourselves into the Fa. We should be tolerant and calm as water and stay diligent in cultivation.
