(Minghui.org) Three officers descended upon Mr. Zhang Guanghe’s home in Beijing at 7 a.m. on August 30, 2022. They turned off his power supply and arrested him when he came out to check what was going on.
Mr. Zhang’s wife was dumbfounded by the early morning arrest, as the police had told her the day before to remind Mr. Zhang to go to the court on his own for a trial scheduled for 9 a.m.
Without allowing his wife to go with them, the police brought Mr. Zhang to the local hospital for a checkup. He was found to have dangerously high blood pressure, but the police still took him to the Pinggu District Court for the 9 o’clock hearing. The judge sentenced him to 2.5 years at the end of the session.
After the Pinggu District Detention Center denied Mr. Zhang’s admission due to his high blood pressure, he was released on bail in the evening.
Mr. Zhang’s latest ordeal stemmed from his earlier arrest on May 17, 2021, after being reported for distributing informational materials in a neighborhood about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The police ransacked his home in the evening and confiscated his Falun Gong books and other materials. His jacket and a bike were also taken away. Due to his high blood pressure, he was rejected admission at the detention center and released on bail.
While he was on bail, the police submitted his case to the Pinggu District Procuratorate. Three staff members interviewed him in May 2022. After he was indicted on June 15, he was arraigned twice by the judge, before being sentenced on August 30.
