(Minghui.org) Two guards at the Hubei Province Women’s Prison and three 610 Office agents went to Ms. Luo Yuanying’s home in February 2023 and attempted to have her family persuade her to stop practicing Falun Gong or talking to people about it.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Luo, 63, and Ms. Huang Hongwei, 61, both of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, were arrested on February 22, 2021 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong.
The Hanyang District Court held two joint hearings in 2022, on May 31 and June 17, respectively, before sentencing Ms. Luo to 7 years and Ms. Huang to 3.5 years on August 8.
After both practitioners appealed the verdicts, Ms. Luo’s sister, who resides in Thailand, came back to China. She submitted a defense statement of over 20 pages and applied to represent her in her appeal case. Ms. Huang’s daughter also requested to be her family defender.
The Wuhan City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold both practitioners’ verdicts on November 28. They were transferred from Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center to the Hubei Province Women’s Prison shortly after.
Because Ms. Luo persisted in practicing Falun Gong, as well as raising awareness about the persecution and urging the inmates to quit the Chinese Communist Party in the prison, the prison guards visited her family and attempted to record a video of them persuading Ms. Luo to stop doing so.
