(Minghui.org) A Yantai City, Shandong Province resident has been forced to live away from home since 2019 to avoid being sentenced for her faith in Falun Gong. The local court recently increased the reward for tipsters to 40,000 yuan.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhuang Shuhua, 68, talked to a young man at her dumpling restaurant on January 19, 2019, about how she recovered from uremia by practicing Falun Gong. He reported her shortly after he left. At around 1 p.m., a group of officers broke into Ms. Zhuang’s restaurant and arrested her. Three other practitioners, including Ms. Diao Chunfeng, Ms. Lin Qiuxiang and Ms. Wang Yuzhen, who happened to be there, were also arrested. Ms. Zhuang’s home was ransacked as well.
Due to her poor health, Ms. Zhuang was denied admission to the local detention center and released on bail. The other three practitioners were detained for five days.
The police submitted Ms. Zhuang’s case to the Longkou City Procuratorate on May 9, 2019, accusing her of “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners. The Longkou City Court scheduled a hearing of her case for July 19, 2019.
To avoid being sentenced, Ms. Zhuang decided to live away from home to hide from the authorities. The police spent much effort looking for her, but to no avail. On October 22, 2020, the Longkou City Court offered a 10,000-yuan reward for people to report her whereabouts. They also put up wanted posters of her near her home.
Still unable to find her, the court increased the reward to 30,000 yuan on December 11, 2020 and further to 40,000 yuan on March 20, 2023.
Ms. Zhuang used to suffer from abnormal platelet counts, fundus hemorrhage, uremia and cysts, all of which disappeared after she took up Falun Gong.
