(Minghui.org) I’m in the renovation business. I didn’t know anything about this line of work when I first started, and there were already seven companies on my street doing the same type of work. Most of them began as carpenters, so they paid other carpenters to bring customers to them.
Many customers tend to trust the carpenters, so they are more willing to buy materials recommended by them. Wholesalers pay the carpenters commissions to sell their products and materials.
Thus, a vicious cycle forms ― wholesalers pay the carpenters high commissions to sell their goods, and the carpenters make the customers buy more materials than they need to get more commissions.
Many carpenters resell the excess materials, while others just throw them away. For example, some carpenters use two layers of boards when only one layer is needed, while others take the materials back when the customers are not on site, and resell them to the wholesalers. Some carpenters cut the sheets into strips and throw them away, and others pour buckets of paint down the toilet and tell the customer they need to buy more. This is done to sell more materials to make a bigger commission.
I’m from a village and had no experience in this line of work. I’m not an eloquent speaker and I had no businesses contacts. I only had one thought: Master Li (Falun Dafa’s founder), arranged for me to get into this business, so I will do a good job in order to validate Dafa and awaken people.
I kept reciting Master’s words, “...the key is to deal fairly and act with integrity.” (The Fourth Talk, Zhuan Falun)
I don’t work with unscrupulous carpenters. I only use those who are considerate of the customers, and I try to provide quality materials at a low price.
I had a customer who had checked out almost all the renovation companies in our city, and finally gave me the business. After we signed the contract, she asked me to add clothes-drying racks and lamps for free. She then asked the carpenter, behind my back, to build an extra row of cabinets, and was unwilling to pay for it.
What she did was not a coincidence. It was to help me become more tolerant, improve my xinxing, and let go of my attachment to profit. I thought I had met the standard of a cultivator by giving customers good materials at a low price. I’d never thought I would meet a customer with so many unreasonable demands. I let her have everything she wanted, and she finally said, “I can’t get mad at you at all.”
When I talked to her about Falun Dafa and the persecution, she had tears in her eyes and agreed to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its youth organizations. She also expressed an interest in learning Falun Dafa.
People do business to make a profit, whereas Dafa practitioners use it as an opportunity to awaken people. Some people aren’t able to read Dafa books, so I try my best to show them the wonders of Dafa through my conduct. I renovated my customers’ places based on their preferences, and they were quite satisfied with my work. They also learned about Falun Dafa and quit the Party.
Master saw my wish to tell people about Dafa, so my business continued to grow. Two years ago, my daughter and I worked on a 21,500-square-foot hotel. When the pandemic was severe last year, many businesses folded, but customers kept coming to us, and we renovated a 15,000-square-foot high-end fitness club.
Master arranged for more people to come to me to hear about Falun Dafa. My friends, relatives, and customers have commented, “Your family is so fortunate, and you are blessed because you believe in Dafa.”
