Additional Persecution News from China – July 1, 2023 (11 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 14 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shanghai] Ms. Zhao Chuanmei Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Zhao Chuanmei was sentenced to one year and three months in prison. Because of her high blood pressure and a lump found in her chest, the detention center refused to admit her. She was told by officers from the Dongchuansha Police Station that she could be called at any time, and had to respond.

2. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Wang Litao Faces Trial

Wang Litao was arrested by officers from the Wanli Police Station on June 1, 2023, and was sent to the Yaojia Detention Center. Wang will be tried in court on July 4, 2023.

3. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Zhang Lirong Arrested

Zhang Lirong was arrested by officers from the Sandian Police Station in the Dongxihu District at 9 p.m. on June 13, 2023. Zhang was placed under criminal arrest on June 15, 2023, and was sent to the No. 1 Detention Center of Wuhan City.

4. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Ms. Liu Guifang Detained

Ms. Liu Guifang was sent to the No.1 Detention Center. Her family received an official arrest notice.

5. [Tianjin] Ms. Chen Huilan Arrested

Ms. Chen Huilan from Hongqiao District was arrested when she went out to distribute information about Falun Gong on June 28, 2023. She was sent to the Hongqiao District Detention Center.

6. [Chengde City, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Guilan’s Home Ransacked

Ms. Liu Guilan lives in Sadaigoumen Village, Dage Town, Fengning County. Several officers including Li Changshan, head of the Domestic Security Division, went to her home around 10 a.m. on May 11, 2023. They broke the lock with a stone or chainsaw and ransacked her home. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, the photo of Falun Gong's founder, incense burners, wall posters, and other personal belongings.

7. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Qiu Liying Persecuted

Ms. Qiu Liying received the first notice from the Shijiazhuang Social Security Center in December 2021 that her pension would be suspended. She received the second notice in April 2023, informing her to return more than 60,000 yuan in pension she previously received. Zhou Hongmei, director of No. 2 Community of the Shijiazhuang Oil Refinery, delivered the notice. She pressured Ms. Qiu to return the money and also photographed Ms. Qiu.

8. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Mr. Wu Zonglun Arrested and Detained

Mr. Wu Zonglun from Xian’an District was reported to police for talking to people about Falun Gong and was arrested by officers from the Guanbu Police Station at 7 p.m. on June 23, 2023. He was placed under 15-day detention and was sent to a local detention house.

9. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Four Practitioners' Bail Deposits Returned

Ms. Qin Xiaoli, Ms. Yang Mingxiang, Ms. Sun Xueqin, and Ms. Feng Changli were arrested by Changli state security agents in May 2021. The Changyi Detention Center refused to accept them because they failed the health examinations. Later the Changle Police Department charged them different amounts of bail deposits. The cases against them were submitted to Qingzhou Procuratorate.

The four practitioners received notices in June 2023, that their bail deposits had been returned. The details are unknown.

10. [Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Su Guiying Persecuted

Ms. Su Guiying from the Mazhang District was arrested by officers from the Zhiman Police Station in May 2023. Her home was ransacked. The items confiscated from her home were not listed. She is currently held in the Zhanjiang City Detention Center. She was arrested right after she sued the Mazhang District Social Security Bureau regarding her pension suspension.

Ms. Su was imprisoned from 2016 to 2020. Her pension was suspended during that time. Ms. Su sued the Mazhang District Social Security Bureau after she was released. Her lawsuit was rejected by the first instance court for improper procedure. She appealed to the Zhanjiang City Intermediate Court and the case was sent back to the first instance court. The hearing was held in the first instance court in April 2023. After the hearing, the lawyer hired by the Mazhang District Social Security Bureau pressured Ms. Su to accept the “conciliation negotiation” and threatened her that the police would be contacted to investigate her. They claimed she was committing pension fraud. Ms. Su was arrested not long after she refused the conciliation.

11. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Shen Yanqiao Released

Ms. Shen Yanqiao from the Railway Community in Wuchang District was arrested by officers from the Zhongnan Road Police Station in July 2021 and was later sentenced to two years in prison. She was detained in the Baofeng Road Women’s Prison and is now released.
