(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 25 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Ji Jinmu Taken to Jinan Prison
The original sentence against Mr. Ji Jinmu from Jiaozhou City was upheld in the second instance. He was taken to Jinan Prison on June 7, 2023.
2. [Luzhou City, Sichuan Province] Original Verdict Against Ms. Zhao Yongxiu Upheld
Ms. Zhao Yongxiu from Hejiang County, sent a complaint letter to the public security, Procuratorate, court, government, and other relevant organizations at the provincial and municipal levels via EMS express mail service, signing her full name. The letter of complaint was labeled “Falun Gong propaganda material” by the public security, Procuratorate and court system in Hejiang County.
The Hejiang County Court sentenced Ms. Zhao to four years and six months in prison on February 2, 2023 and fined her 8,000 yuan. This was Ms. Zhao’s second sentence. Ms. Zhao refused to accept the sentence and appealed in court.
Ms. Zhao’s first-instance lawyer submitted her appeal, his own defense, and an application for a hearing to the Luzhou City Intermediate Court. The intermediate court did not hold a court session, and issued a final ruling on April 28, which upheld the original judgment.
3. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Mr. Gao Hong Taken to Prison
Mr. Gao Hong, 55, an electrical engineer from Qilu Petrochemical Company, was arrested by officers from the Qidu Police Department on March 14, 2023, and was held in the Zhangdian Detention Center in Zibo City. He was transferred to Shandong Province Prison more than two months later, on June 7. His 84-year-old mother is at home alone, with no one to care for her.
4. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Xia Guihua, Ms. Jiang Ruihua, and Ms. Li Wenhua were arrested by officers from the Xinghua Street Police Station in Changyi District on June 4, 2023. Their homes were ransacked. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books, photos of the founder of Falun Gong, printers, computers, and money.
5. [Deyang City, Sichuan Province] Zhang Shufeng Faces Trial
Zhang Shufeng (gender unknown) from Lingmiao Village, Xiaogan Town, Jingyang District, will be tried on June 19, 2023.
6. [Handan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Huang Guiqin Detained for Over Seven Months
Ms. Huang Guiqin from Beitaitou Township, Wei County, was arrested on October 14, 2022. She was held in custody for over seven months and returned home from the Handan City No. 3 Detention Center on May 30, 2023.
7. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Tian Yingchun Arrested
Ms. Tian Yingchun was arrested and her home was ransacked by officers from the Longgang Police Department on the morning of May 18, 2023. Ms. Tian was taken to the detention center that evening, but she was not admitted. She has now returned home.
8. [Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province] Several Practitioners Harassed
Police stations in Hantai District, along with community management offices, called, visited, and otherwise harassed Falun Gong practitioners.
It was reported that the practitioners harassed in April included Wang Naiwen, Liu Yuming, Tu Baogui, Wu Yali, Liu Guilan, Zheng Suzhen, and a new practitioner named Yang. The officers called practitioners’ family members and told them to tell the practitioners not to go out to promote Falun Gong. They also visited practitioners’ homes and took photos.
9. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Mr. Wu Xinyun Faces Trial
Mr. Wu Xinyun will be tried in the Zhongyuan District Court on the morning of June 13, 2023.
10. [Chongqing] Ms. Zhu Jingrong Arrested
Ms. Zhu Jingrong, 77, from Beibei District, was reported to the police for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was arrested at home by officers from the Beibei District Police Department on the afternoon of June 7, 2023. Her home was ransacked.
11. [Kangbao County, Hebei Province] Ms. Yang Derong Harassed
Cao Xuegang, a member of the Zhongyi Township Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and others went to Ms. Yang Derong’s home a few days ago and asked her to sign three statements. After she refused to cooperate, they called and harassed her husband, who rejected their demands.
12. [Chengde City, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Guilan Arrested
Li Changshan, head of Fengning County Domestic Security Division, led five or six men who were not in police uniforms to Ms. Liu Guilan’s home in Sadaigoumen Village, Baita Township, at noon on June 1, 2023. They sawed off the door latch and broke in. They confiscated the paintings on the wall, Falun Gong books, video players, and cell phones.
Ms. Liu was handcuffed, pushed into a car, and taken to the county police department. When they arrived at the police department, several of the men put on police uniforms. Ms. Liu did not cooperate when they tried to measure her weight and collect her biometrics. She was handcuffed to an iron chair and asked from whom she got the confiscated items.
Ms. Liu was taken to the Fengning County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, for physical examinations. She was then taken to a detention center. The doctor at the detention center looked at the checklist and readings of her blood pressure and said that her life could be in danger at any time. The detention center refused to accept Ms. Liu. She returned home at 6 p.m. that evening.
13. [Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Fu Zhaocui Held in Hospital
Ms. Fu Zhaocui was arrested at around 7 a.m. on June 5, 2023, by officers from the Domestic Security Division and the Hailin City Court. She was taken to a patient room on the 17th floor of the No. 2 Affiliated Hospital of Mudanjiang Medical College. Her room was guarded by police officers.
14. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Xu Guizhen Faces Trial
After Ms. Xu Guizhen was prosecuted, Fangzi District Court notified her that a trial would be held in the Butou Court of Fangzi District at 9 a.m. on June 12, 2023.
The court assigned her a defense lawyer named Zhang, who would plead guilty. Ms. Xu refused the assignment and insisted on defending herself.
15. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Hu Yanhua Detained
Ms. Hu Yanhua was arrested by officers from the Zongguan Police Station in Qiaokou District on the morning of May 31, 2023. On June 1 she was taken to the Wuhan Administrative Detention Center for ten days of detention.
16. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhou Lizhi Arrested
Ms. Zhou Lizhi from Lingzi Town, Zichuan District, was arrested by officers from the Banyang Road Police Station on the afternoon of June 8, 2023. Further information is pending.
17. [Tianjin] Ms. Zhong Qilan Arrested
Five or six officers from the Gaocun Township Police Station in Wuqing District, led by Jianchang Village security director Chen Weiguo, ransacked Ms. Zhong Qilan’s home at around 3 p.m. on May 23, 2023. Ms. Zhong was taken to the police station. The officers told her to sit on an iron stool, which she refused.
The officers said, “We went to your home today, as your previous case was not closed.” They asked her if she had gone out to distribute Falun Gong materials since August of last year. They then asked Ms. Zhong to sign paperwork, which she refused.
After a while, they brought over some forms, including summons slips, release slips, and told her, “Sign these.” Ms. Zhong said, “No.” They said, “If you don’t sign them, we will.” They then took Ms. Zhong home, and photographed the Falun Gong items in her home.
