(Minghui.org) Mr. Ronald Gläser, Member of the Berlin State Parliament and vice chairman of the Alternative Party (AfD), wrote to Li Zaiwu, the new municipal secretary of Rizhao City, Shandong Province, requesting the immediate and unconditional release of detained Falun Gong practitioners.
On May 12 this year, the 24th World Falun Dafa Day, officers from the Rizhao City Police Department, Wulian County Police Department, and several township police departments arrested and detained about 70 Falun Gong practitioners, including the couple, Mr. Ding Yuande and Ms. Ma Ruimei.
Mr. Gläser later publicly and strongly condemned the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong practitioners at a rally celebrating World Falun Dafa Day in Berlin.

Shortly afterwards, he also wrote Wu Ken, the Chinese Ambassador to Germany, requesting that the Chinese authorities immediately and unconditionally release illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners.
In his letter on August 31, Mr. Gläser stated: “I would like to express my concern about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Rizhao City. People with inside knowledge tell me that your predecessor, Ms. Zhang Hui, Mr. Li Gang, Director of the Rizhao City Police Department, and Mr. Li Jiang, Director of the Wulian County Police Department, contributed to the detention of approx. 70 Falun Gong practitioners.”

He continued, “In particular, I am very concerned about the fate and the lives of two Chinese Falun Gong practitioners – married couple Mr. Yuande Ding and his wife, Ms. Ruimei Ma.”
Since June 13, 2023, Mr. Ding Yuande has been illegally detained in the Rizhao City Detention Center. On June 14, two domestic security police officers from Rizhao City went to Ding Yuande’s home to threaten his wife, Ma Ruimei, because a rescue effort for her and her husband Ding Yuande was being carried out overseas. The two police officers angrily told Ms. Ma that her husband, Ding Yuande, would be sentenced and that the rescue operation included a letter of protest from overseas to Ms. Zhang Hui, the former Party secretary of Rizhao City.
On July 20, the Donggang District Police Department of Rizhao City issued a formal arrest warrant for Mr. Ding.

Mr. Gläser stressed, “The ongoing persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP has seriously violated basic human rights and the fundamental rights enshrined in the Chinese Constitution.”
He strongly urged the Rizhao City authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Ding Yuande, immediately stop the persecution of the Falun Gong practitioner couple, and issue travel documents (passports) for them to reunite with their son in Germany.
Mr. Gläser said he would pay close attention to the progress of the case.
