(Minghui.org) The ICHRRF (International Commission for Human Rights and Religious Freedom) held a 1-day conference in Washington, D.C. on the topic of forgotten genocides of the world on September 23, 2023.
Dr. Sen Nieh, a professor at the Catholic University of America, described the genocidal persecution carried out by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) against Falun Gong practitioners. He cited historical data and photos to show that, through its various political movements, the CCP has killed 80 million Chinese people since 1949. The number of unnatural deaths exceeds the total number of deaths in the 20th Century’s two world wars. Participants were appalled and called on the international community to stop the CCP’s atrocities.
ICHRRF held a 1-day conference at George Washington University in Washington, D.C on September 23, 2023.
Dr. Nieh, a professor for 40 years at the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C., has been an academic leader and served 5 terms totaling 14 years as the Mechanical Engineering Department Chairman. He has published over 100 scientific papers and was granted eight invention patents. He holds Honorary Professorship at six universities in Taiwan and China.
Dr. Nieh told conference attendees that he began practicing Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) in 1997. He explained that Falun Dafa was introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in May 1992 and that within six years, 70 to 100 million people in China had taken up the practice. People were attracted to Falun Dafa’s amazing physical and mental health benefits. Dr. Neih said that a major component of Falun Dafa is that it teaches people to value virtue and abide by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in their daily lives. Today, Falun Dafa is practiced in more than 100 countries and regions including the United States.
Professor Nieh addressed the conference.
Dr. Nieh recounted the CCP’s brutal persecution over the past 24 years. “Seeing the rapid spread and popularity of Falun Gong in China, the then CCP leader, Jiang Zemin, insisted on suppressing Falun Gong out of paranoia and jealousy. On July 20, 1999, the CCP began a full-scale persecution of Falun Gong. Hundreds of thousands practitioners were imprisoned, tortured, murdered, and even killed for their organs [for sale to transplant patients]. This genocide of Falun Gong practitioners continues to this day.”
He showed the participants pictures of practitioners being tortured, as well as the various torture methods used by the CCP to force practitioners to give up their belief.
People from multiple social groups, experts and scholars, officials, media and others were invited to participate in the conference. Attendees were appalled by the CCP’s brutal persecution of the Chinese people, and some took photos of Dr. Nieh’s presentation.

Former Indian ambassador Pradeep Kapur presided over the conference.
Former Indian Ambassador Pradeep Kapur who chaired the conference, was appalled by what Professor Nieh revealed. He said, “I have been aware of some background about what is happening in China, since the time of the Cultural Revolution, and how millions and millions of people died. But when I listened to Professor Sen Nieh today, and looked at all the drafts and details and descriptions of what was happening, it was a very, very big shock. I didn’t know that it was happening to this extent—how families were broken up, and how people were being killed. The number of people being killed would make it more than the natural deaths. So all of these are very shocking revelations. It has never hit me so strongly.”
He said that the international community should bring awareness of this problem by supporting the people who are oppressed, or have been killed, or have been threatened or forced to give up their culture, their religious rights, their human rights.
He pointed out, “While the outside world has a lot of responsibility, I think the Chinese people have even more responsibility to stop these atrocities, to come out openly, to speak out openly against those who are committing the brutality, or against people who are ordering these genocides and killings.”
American lawyer Brett Chapman said that it was important to get the information out and let people know about the persecution that has occurred. The international community needs to take more action to hold countries responsible for genocide.

About the CCP’s genocide carried out against Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Chapman said, “When a nation that is committing these atrocities has the power over the people they are committing these atrocities on, the international community is ready to step in there and say ‘Hey, we recognize this is going on, and it’s time for it to stop. You know, maybe we won’t do business with you, in this regard, maybe we’ll sanction you.’”
Professor Nieh told attendees about the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party (published in 2004). He said that the Nine Commentaries exposed the CCP’s lies and deception, its history of violent killings, and its crimes of genocide. He called on the world to recognize the true nature of the CCP and no longer have illusions about it.
He said that a wave of people quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations was triggered after the publication of the Nine Commentaries. To date, 419 million people have quit the CCP and its youth organizations.
He said, “More and more Chinese people are breaking away from the CCP’s evil regime, and their moral awakening is unstoppable.”
