(Minghui.org) An Anping County, Hebei Province, resident, was sentenced to one year in prison on October 15, 2024, for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Liu Jianheng, 47, was arrested on April 27, 2024, by the Chengguan Police Station officers, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials at the Wanggezhuang Community Fair.

The Anping County Procuratorate approved Mr. Liu’s arrest on May 11 and indicted him on June 17, with the charge of “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Liu’s wife hired a lawyer to represent him. She also applied to be his family non-lawyer defender but her request was denied by presiding judge Cheng Bochun of the Anping County Court. Mr. Liu was sentenced to one year with a 5,000 yuan fine on October 15. He has appealed the verdict.
