A mentally healthy resident in Hefei City, Anhui Province was twice held in psychiatric hospitals for years on end, simply because he wouldn’t renounce his faith in Falun Gong. He lost all of his teeth and became bedridden when he was released in 2013. After struggling with failing health for years, he passed away in October 2018. He was 65.
Mr. Wang Hongjie, a former employee of JAC Vehicle Manufacturing Plant, began to practice Falun Gong in 1993. He lived by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance and was recognized with the “Model Worker” award several times. After the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, he was repeatedly targeted for not renouncing his faith.
Following an arrest in 2000, Mr. Wang was detained at the Hefei City Brainwashing Center for over two years, where he suffered relentless abuse both physically and mentally.
Mr. Wang was arrested again in 2003 and taken to the Anhui Province Fourth Hospital, also known as the Hefei City Psychiatric Hospital. He was given toxic shots on a regular basis. His legs were broken after being beaten by hospital security. By the time he was released seven years later in 2010, he was in a confused and disoriented mental state, completely losing the ability to care for himself.
In the second half of 2010, Mr. Wang suddenly disappeared. His family looked for him everywhere, but couldn’t find him. Three years later in 2013, his family received a call from the Dalonghu Police Station in nearby Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and were ordered to pick him up at the Tongshan Psychiatric Hospital in Xuzhou.
By then, Mr. Wang had lost all of his teeth from the beatings. He was in an extremely weak mental and physical state. He remained bedridden and relied on tube feeding. After struggling with poor health for five years, he passed away in October 2018.
