(Minghui.org) Ms. Qin Xiujuan, 69, who is imprisoned for practicing Falun Gong has been denied family visits and her ability to buy necessities from the commissary has been restricted since her prison transfer a few months ago.
Ms. Qin, a resident of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, was arrested on February 3, 2023 and sentenced to three years and four months with a 4,000-yuan fine around early April 2024. She filed an appeal with the Wuhan City Intermediate Court, which ruled against her around August 2024. She was transferred to the Hubei Province Women’s Prison (located in Wuhan) afterwards.
Because Ms. Qin refused to renounce Falun Gong, the prison did not allow her to have family visits and also limited her ability to purchase daily necessities.
This is not the first time that Ms. Qin has been jailed for her faith. She was previously given 3.5 years by the Qingshan District Court in Wuhan in 2012. She suffered various forms of torture in the same prison. Her hair turned gray and she often suffered from cramps in her hands, legs, and feet.
Prior to her first prison sentence, Ms. Qin was also repeatedly targeted while still living in her hometown of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She was detained for 15 days after she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on July 22, 1999. After another arrest in early 2000, she was held at a brainwashing center for 20 days. In 2001, she was taken to the same brainwashing center and detained for two months. When she was not in detention, her employer, the Tangshan City Printing and Dyeing Factory, dispatched people to either watch her at her home or take her to her workplace and hold her there for days on end. A supervisor named Li Yushun also led people to harass her at home numerous times.
After she retired in 2012, she moved in with her son’s family in Wuhan, Hubei Province, only to be twice arrested and sentenced each time. For details of her persecution, see the related reports below.
