(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 3 cities or counties in 2 provinces, where at least 10 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
1. [Beijing] Ms. Du Zonghong and Ms. Zhang Xiuhua Sentenced to Prison
2. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Yinghua Sentenced to One Year in Prison
3. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Seven Practitioners Tried and Harassed
1. [Beijing] Ms. Du Zonghong and Ms. Zhang Xiuhua Sentenced to Prison
Ms. Du Zonghong from the Huairou District was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong in 2023. She was sentenced to nine months in prison.
Ms. Zhang Xiuhua, 78, who was retired from teaching at Huairou No. 1 Middle School, was seen on surveillance cameras when she distributed two Falun Gong brochures in 2023. She was sentenced to six months in prison, which caused her significant physical and mental harm. She previously enjoyed good health, but now her vision is blurred and she has diabetes. The police forced her to sign the three statements, her pension was withheld, and her social security benefits were stopped.
2. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Yinghua Sentenced to One Year in Prison
Ms. Liu Yinghua, 66, was arrested and her home was ransacked on June 4, 2023. She was held in the Jilin City Detention Center. She was tried by the Changyi District Court in December 2023. The court collected 3,000 yuan from family. Ms. Liu was sentenced to one year in prison. The sentence was suspended for one year and she returned home on January 12, 2024.
3. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Seven Practitioners Tried and Harassed
The Laizhou City Court tried seven practitioners on November 29, 2023, and notified Gao Rijun, Feng Guoping, and Teng Qinhua to pay fines, which they refused to do. The Laizhou City Court did not pursue the fines.
On January 24, 2024, Dayuan Sub-district Justice Agency called Gao Rijun and Feng Guoping and told them they were not allowed to engage in activities or gather and their phones had to be left on to be reachable at all times.
Later that day, the Laizhou City Justice Bureau called and told Teng Qinhua that she could not gather with others or engage in activities and that her phone had to be left on to be reachable all at times.
