(Minghui.org) An Anlu City, Hubei Province, resident was recently sentenced to a seven-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Ms. Kong Jiuhong’s family is now hiring a lawyer to appeal the verdict for her.
Ms. Kong was arrested at home on October 24, 2023 and taken to the Changsong Brainwashing Center. She went on a hunger strike after her arrest. The police in November 2023 transferred her to the Yunmeng County Detention Center in Xiaogan City, which oversees Anlu City. Zou Chaoyang, the director of Anlu City Domestic Security Division, promised her family on November 17 that he would soon release her on bail, only to transfer her to the Hanchuan Rehabilitation Hospital on November 22 for continued detention.
Because Ms. Kong’s husband and child live in a different city, they didn’t find out about her arrest until several days later when her husband returned home. He noted that their front door had been pried open, the garage searched, and Ms. Kong’s computer, printer, and Falun Gong books confiscated. He looked for her everywhere and finally found her at a brainwashing center in nearby Beifan Town, which is under the jurisdiction of Anlu. After learning about her hunger strike, he demanded her immediate release but received no response from the Anlu City Police Department.
Ms. Kong appeared in the Anlu City Court on April 17, 2024 and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
