(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 26 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

A second hearing of Ms. Zhang Yuzhen’s case was scheduled by the Xixia District Court for 2:30 p.m. on August 12, 2024. Details about the hearing aren’t available at the time of writing.
2. [Guan County, Shandong Province] Practitioner Ji Guiyun Arrested
Practitioner Ji Guiyun and another practitioner from Lilu Village, Chengguan Town, went to a nearby village to distribute Falun Gong materials on July 20, 2024. They were reported to the town police by village police. Ji was arrested and held in custody. The other practitioner avoided arrest.
3. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Cheng Yanli and Ms. Jia Yufeng Arrested
Ms. Cheng Yanli, in her 50s, and Ms. Jia Yufeng, in her 60s, from Lianshan District, were followed while talking to people about Falun Gong at Dihao Village Farmers Market on the morning of August 6, 2024. They were arrested, taken to the Beizhan Police Station, and subsequently transferred to Jinjiao Street Police Station later that day. The two practitioners were taken to the Huludao City Detention Center the next day, where Ms. Cheng was detained for 10 days and Ms. Jia 15 days.
4. [Hengshan County, Hunan Province] Ms. Cai Zhonghua Arrested
Li Pu, head of Hengshan County Domestic Security Division, led four police officers to search Ms. Cai Zhonghua’s home on July 17, 2024. They confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong and calendars bearing information about Falun Gong. Ms. Cai was forcibly taken to Hengshan County People’s Hospital for a physical examination. She was then taken to the Administration Facility for Common Offenders, where she was interrogated. The guards took her fingerprints and footprints, recorded her voice, took photos of her, and forced her to sign paperwork. She was later admitted to Hengshan County Detention Center for a week. She has since been released.
5. [Changtu County, Liaoning Province] Mr. Wu Bo’s Case Returned to the Police For Further Investigation
Mr. Wu Bo, his wife, and Ms. Li Hongxin were arrested by officers from the Tienan Police Station on July 11, 2024, after being recorded by surveillance cameras in November 2023 when they went to Siping City, Jilin Province to mail letters about Falun Gong. Both Mr. Wu’s wife and Ms. Li were released the next day, but Mr. Wu was admitted to the Changtu County Detention Center.
The Changtu County Domestic Security Division submitted Mr. Wu’s case to the Changtu County Procuratorate, which returned it to the police in early August, citing insufficient evidence. Mr. Wu’s family members went to the Changtu County Detention Center on August 5, 2024, to visit him, but were turned away by the guards.
6. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Yafen and Her Husband Held in Detention Center
Ms. Zhang Yafen and her husband, from Heishan County, went to the North Panjin Station to take a train heading for Dalian City, where their daughter lives, on July 24, 2024. They were stopped by train station police officers when they tried to buy bottled water using paper bills printed with Falun Gong information. Local police raided their home. The couple is being held in the Jinzhou City Detention Center.
7. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Xu Xiangqun Sentenced to Five Months in Prison
Ms. Xu Xiangqun, a native of Nanchang, was staying in her child’s home in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province in recent years to help care for her grandchild. She was arrested in January 2024, by plainclothes officers from the Nanping Police Station in Zhuhai, for using paper bills with Falun Gong information printed on them. Her shared residence with her child was ransacked and her Falun Gong books were taken away.
At the Nanping Police Station, officers forcibly collected a blood sample from her, along with fingerprints and her facial biometrics. Her voice was also recorded. After passing the physical examination, she was admitted to the Xiangzhou District First Detention Center in Zhuhai City. The Xiangzhou District Procuratorate later indicted her and moved her case to the Xiangzhou District Court. She was sentenced to five months in prison with a 1,000-yuan fine. She was released in June 2024.
This was the third time that Ms. Xu has been detained in Zhuhai in the past four years. She was previously arrested by officers from the Xiawan Police Station and the Liangfenqiao Police Station in February 2020, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police confiscated her computers, printers, several cell phones, Falun Gong handouts, and paper bills printed with Falun Gong information. She was given 15 days of administrative detention at the Zhuhai First Drug Rehabilitation Center.
Ms. Xu was arrested again in April 2023, and her home was ransacked by the Nanping Police Station officers, for using paper bills printed with Falun Gong information. She was given another 15 days of administrative detention at the Zhuhai First Drug Rehabilitation Center.
8. [Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province] Ms. Tan Fang Detained for Five Days
Ms. Tan Fang was harassed by Wen Daming, Kang Wenfang, and two others from the Huili City Domestic Security Division on July 27, 2024. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, and took her to the People’s Hospital for a physical examination. They then took her to a detention center, where she was held for five days.
9. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Yang Qinghua Arrested
Ms. Yang Qinghua, in her 50s, from Xinyuan Community, Chengguan Sub-district, Beipiao City, was arrested on July 24, 2024. The police ransacked her home and confiscated several Falun Gong books. She is being held in the Chaoyang City Women’s Detention Center and denied family visitation.
10. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Liyan Arrested
Ms. Liu Liyan from Sujiatun District was arrested at home by officer Jin Peng from the Sujiatun District Domestic Security Division and others on July 11, 2024. She was held in the Shenyang City First Detention Center and released on July 26.
11. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Huo Guilan Faces Indictment
Ms. Huo Guilan, in her 70s, was arrested on April 11, 2024. Her case was recently transferred by Guo Bin of the Chencang District Procuratorate to the Jintai District Procuratorate. The latter has been designated to handle all Falun Gong cases in the metropolitan Baoji area.
12. [Meihekou City, Jilin Province] Mr. Gai Yongguang, His Wife Ms. Wang Xiujuan, and Two Family Members Arrested
Mr. Gai Yongguang, his wife Ms. Wang Xiujuan, and their non-practitioner son and daughter-in-law were arrested around early August 2024. His daughter-in-law was released later that day to pick up her son at the kindergarten. The current situation of Mr. Gai, Ms. Wang, and their son isn’t clear.
13. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Chen Yan Arrested
Ms. Chen Yan, 44, was arrested by Meng Xiangchong, deputy director of the Hexi Police Station in Xihu District, who broke into her home on the evening of July 14, 2024. Her computer, TV, cell phone, and cash were confiscated. She was taken to the detention center and interrogated in the middle of the night. The police put a black hood over her head, threatened her, and did not allow her to eat.
Ms. Chen is currently sleeping on a bare wooden plank in the detention center. She was beaten by an inmate named Fang Xiaoxu. Scars were visible in her head, arms, and legs.
