(Minghui.org) Two Songyuan City, Jilin Province, residents, were recently sentenced to prison for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Wang Limei, 64, was arrested on July 10, 2024, while attending an experience-sharing meeting with other Falun Gong practitioners online. She was first held at the Zhenlai County Detention Center and then transferred to the Baicheng City Detention Center.

The Da’an City Court held a virtual hearing of Ms. Wang’s case and later sentenced her to three and a half years with a 20,000 yuan fine. She appealed the verdict, only to have her term extended by four months.

Both Zhenlai County and Da’an City are under the jurisdiction of Baicheng, where the internet surveillance network of Jilin is located.

The other practitioner, Ms. Zang Liyuan, was arrested at home around 8 a.m. on July 11, 2024, also by officers from Zhenlai County. The police confiscated her computer and took her to the Baicheng City Detention Center. They accused her of sending information about Falun Gong online with her cell phone.

Ms. Zang was issued a formal arrest warrant in September 2024. The Da’an City Court later sentenced her to three and a half years with a 20,000 yuan fine in a virtual hearing.

Ms. Wang’s Past Persecution

Before Ms. Wang took up Falun Gong, she suffered severe gynecological diseases. She spent a fortune seeking treatment but didn’t have any improvement. Only a few weeks after she took up Falun Gong, she recovered. Witnessing her changes, her husband, Mr. Li Chengwen, also began to practice Falun Gong.

Before her latest sentencing, Ms. Wang was arrested three times and forced to live away from home to hide from the police. Her husband was arrested on January 28, 2014, for hanging up a banner bearing information about Falun Gong. He was sentenced to three years by the Qianguo County Court and his appeal was rejected by the Songyuan City Intermediate Court. He served time at the Gongzhuling Prison.
