Ms. Xie Weiqun died in 2011 after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong.

Ms. Xie went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on June 27, 2000. As soon as her train arrived in Beijing, she was arrested and taken back to Chengdu. She was held in a 100-square-foot room in the police station, which didn’t have any windows and the floor was covered with feces and urine.

Ms. Xie was transferred to the Jiurucun Lockup the next day. She held a hunger strike for 13 days and was released on the 15th day. The police threw her on the roadside and left her there.

Only a day later, the police arrested Ms. Xie again. She soon fell into critical condition and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. She almost died from excessive internal bleeding.

Only 20 days after Ms. Xie’s surgery, the police arrived and attempted to arrest her again. Under her family’s strong protest, the police relented, but they returned shortly after and forcibly arrested Ms. Xie. They also falsely accused her of distributing Falun Gong flyers, which she denied. She was detained for a month.

Ms. Xie was subjected to years of persecution, including illegal detention and harassment, which took a toll on her health and caused tremendous mental anguish.

Succumbing to the ongoing persecution, Ms. Xie passed away in 2011.
