Ms. Zhao Fengxia, of Tongliang District, Chongqing, died on September 16, 2019, after enduring years of persecution for practicing Falun Gong. She was only 45.

Ms. Zhao became very ill and lost her vision when she was in her 30s. When she lost all hope, a friend introduced Falun Gong to her. Not long after she learned the practice, Ms. Zhao regained her vision and her family was amazed by Falun Gong’s healing effect.

Ms. Zhao was arrested in 2007, along with her mother Ms. Li Zhengying, for talking to an elementary school security staff person about Falun Gong. Both were given a one-year term at the Shimahe Women’s Forced Labor Camp. The persecution dealt Ms. Li’s mother a hard blow. The grandmother, in her 90s, soon passed away.

Ms. Zhao was severely tortured and deprived of sleep at the labor camp because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. The guards also forced her to take toxic drugs and administered toxic injections. She was released when she was on the verge of death.

Upon returning home, Ms. Zhao began to feel weak and had loose bowels. What she discharged was mostly blood and pus. After a few days, she became incapacitated and lost the ability to stand.

A group of officers arrested Ms. Zhao and Ms. Li again on October 23, 2013 and took them to a brainwashing center. The police continued to harass the women after they returned home weeks later.

After her mother Ms. Li was arrested again on July 30, 2014, the police sent Ms. Zhao to a nursing home, as she was unable to take care of herself. Her condition declined during her stay there and she developed a huge bedsore on her buttocks.

After struggling with failing health for a few more years, Ms. Zhao died on September 16, 2019.
