A man in Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, died in 2015 after enduring years of persecution for his faith in Falun Gong.
Mr. Han Fugen was arrested at least five times over the years. He was held in brainwashing centers three times and twice in the Wenling City Detention Center. When he passed away in 2015, his wife, Ms. Lin Guilian, was still serving a seven-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong.
Prior to her seven-year sentence, Ms. Lin was jailed from 2004 to 2007. After she was released, she founded a shoe company and hired dozens of workers, including her son Mr. Han Ping, also a Falun Gong practitioner. The police arrested her and her son on March 14, 2007, and her company had to shut down. Her son was later sentenced to five years in prison. Prior to that, he was given one year of forced labor in late 1999 and another two years of forced labor in 2003.
Ms. Lin and her husband were arrested in August 2008 and held in a brainwashing center for about two months. The police harassed the couple’s daughter-in-law at her family-run kindergarten. The younger woman eventually divorced Ms. Lin’s son and was given full custody of their six-year-old son.
The police arrested Ms. Lin on September 1, 2009, and a court sentenced her to seven years. Her husband died while she was still in prison.
Ms. Lin and her son were arrested in early December 2020 and held for an unknown amount of time. They were arrested twice more, in April 2022 and on September 8, 2022.
