(Minghui.org) Chief Ma of the Yushu City Police Department in Jilin Province led officers from multiple police stations and arrested 15 local Falun Gong practitioners on December 19, 2024 for either installing or using satellite dishes to receive uncensored news from an overseas TV station. Two other practitioners were harassed that day.
4 Still in Detention
Mr. Lyu Xianfeng, Mr. Yang Fujun, Mr. Du Changjiang, and Mr. Fan Yunpeng are still in detention after their arrests on December 19. They were targeted for installing satellite dishes for the following practitioners, who were arrested for watching uncensored news using the satellite dishes.
1 Detained for 10 Days
Ms. Zhao Yaling was arrested by three officers from the Daling Township Police Station, including chief Shi and officer Yang. They searched her home and took her to the police station for interrogation. They held her in a metal chair and collected her biometric information. She was detained for 10 days.
2 Detained for 7 Days
Ms. Zhang Guizhi and Ms. Huang Yuru were both detained for seven days.
Ms. Zhang
Ms. Zhang was cooking breakfast around 8:30 a.m. when she heard a knock on the door. A woman’s voice said it was a neighbor. Ms. Zhang opened the door, only to see a group of officers barge in. One of them whipped out a search warrant and said he was named Liu Yan. He and the other officers began searching the home. When Ms. Zhang said something, Liu beat her and ordered her to shut up. They confiscated dozens of Falun Gong books, some informational materials, a portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, a music player, three cell phones, a computer, Ms. Zhang’s ID, a set-top box and a satellite dish.
They also demanded to have her house key. She refused and was beaten. She then gave in. The police took her to the police station to interrogate her and collect her fingerprints and footprints. They also gave her a physical examination. She heard the doctor say her systolic blood pressure was nearly 200 mmHg and her diastolic blood pressure was 160 mmHg. The police took her to a local lockup after 2 a.m. and detained her there for seven days.
Ms. Huang
Ms. Huang and her granddaughter just stepped out of the door at 9 a.m. when three officers, including Liu Dawei, from the Chengjiao Police Station stopped them. Ms. Huang grabbed Liu to try to stop him from entering her home. After a 30 minute standoff, the police called in about 19 officers for help. Liu produced a search warrant and began searching her home. The raid lasted until 2 p.m.
The police removed Ms. Huang’s satellite dish, set-top box, dozens of Falun Gong books, portrait of Falun Gong founder and house key. They took her to the police station for interrogation. They also collected her handprints and footprints. After that they took her to the Lanxing Hospital for a physical examination. By the time she was driven to a local lockup it was 2 a.m. She was detained for seven days.
Her husband, who does not practice Falun Gong, was also taken to the same lockup. Officer Liu extorted more than 1,000 yuan from him and released him. The fund was used to “compensate” Liu for the damage to his coat caused by Ms. Huang when she grabbed him and tried to stop him from entering her home. After her husband returned home, he noted the police raided it again while he and his wife were in detention. Their passports and marriage license were gone. He later managed to get the passports back, but the police said they lost the marriage license.
2 Detained for One Day
Eight officers broke into a married couple’s home just after 8 a.m. on December 19 and confiscated their set-top box. Both Ms. Meng Xianfang and her husband Mr. Xu Jianbo were found to have dangerously high blood pressure. The local detention center declined to admit them and they were released the next morning.
