(Minghui.org) Wu Shuyun’s family owned a small manufacturing factory that operated year-round. Her parents took on many ad-hoc manufacturing commissions to support their family. With help from their children, they made all kinds of goods, from colorful Christmas fairy lights to bags of vermicelli. Throughout her childhood, Shuyun’s hands would busily work on items while her eyes continued to scan through her school textbooks.
In those simple and scarce times, Shuyun remembers her stern father’s involuntary smile the first time she received first place recognition in elementary school. “My father’s smile upon reading that first place certificate lingered in my mind and spurred me to earn more academic achievements in elementary school. After entering junior high school, I became more competitive and would envy classmates who were able to afford tutoring in English and mathematics. They could even afford to buy personal radios to listen to music, while my family’s financial situation did not allow it.”
This financial gap triggered Shuyun’s desire to change her future through her own efforts. After graduating from high school, Shuyun chose to study law at a university, hoping to become a lawyer. She worked during the day and studied at night. However, after failing the bar exam despite several attempts, Shuyun had to settle for becoming a legal assistant in a law firm.
“The two years I spent in this law firm greatly influenced my beliefs. Our clients included brothers fighting over property, husbands and wives, and those eyeing money and land. I felt suffocated facing these real-life dramas as they played out each day at work, to the point that I asked myself if being a lawyer was really my desired profession.”
Shuyun had originally wanted to help uphold justice, yet her health deteriorated from the stress, as her dream clashed with reality. “Dealing with the complexity of each case worsened my gastric condition. Every attack hurt so badly that I would vomit. I went through three or four gastroscopies, made frequent trips to the emergency room in the middle of the night, and was even hospitalized.”
Wanting to escape this cesspool that had been causing her unbearable physical and mental pressure, Shuyun decided to take the national civil service exam. This move not only changed the course of her life, but also set the stage for her to encounter Falun Dafa.
Zhuan Falun Restored Her Memories of Heaven
A colleague gave Shuyun a copy of Zhuan Falun in 2004. Besides highly recommending the book, the colleague advised her to treasure it. “I was busy studying for a promotional exam then, so I told my colleague that I would read it afterward. I carefully stored the book on the top shelf of my desk drawer. Each time I opened the drawer I would see the book vaguely shining with golden light.”
Soon after this her retired father received a prognosis of Parkinson’s disease. Having heard that Falun Dafa could miraculously cure diseases and improve health, Shuyun seriously contemplated learning the exercises so she could teach her father the practice. “I bought a copy of Zhuan Falun for my parents and reminded them to practice the exercises and read the book whenever they had time. One day, I realized that I should set an example myself, so I opened my desk drawer, retrieved my copy of Zhuan Falun, and started to read.”
Shuyun found peace, joy, and purpose in life after reading Zhuan Falun.
Shuyun was surprised by the simple and yet profound Fa principles in the book, which thoroughly explained many of life’s mysteries. Reading the book triggered her dormant memories. “During my childhood, I often went to the well near the village with my siblings to fetch water. I was ten years old when I pointed to the reflection of the moon in that ancient well and told my brothers and sisters, “Did you know I was originally a fairy from heaven?” After recalling that memory, I felt the urge to learn more from Dafa. I wanted to know my purpose in coming to this world, and whether I was meant to go back.”
Shuyun began studying the Fa and practicing the exercises earnestly. “I had studied books to make a living and to gain material benefits. Unlike other books, Zhuan Falun taught me how to be a good person, showed me my purpose in life, and shed light on the meaning behind my existence. In today’s conflict filled society, Falun Dafa purifies me each day, giving me peace, joy, and purpose in life.”
After she started studying Falun Dafa, Shuyun found that her severe gastritis was cured without her even realizing it. She and her colleagues set up a Falun Dafa practice group at work, and members, including company leaders, practiced the exercises each morning before work, and studied the Fa together in a conference room during lunch. “At one point, thirty of us were practicing together. Many people also purchased Zhuan Falun to read at home. Our collective Fa study setting mirrored the description in Zhuan Falun: ‘The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and harmonizes everything.’ Many colleagues and people from all walks to life came to study the Fa and practice the exercises.”
Transformed by the Fa, Seeing the World With a Broad Mind
Soon after Shuyun received a promotion, just as she was dealing with a heavier workload, she ran into a major test. “My father and father-in-law were hospitalized at the same time. Besides juggling work, I had to shuttle in and out of the hospital to care for them. I was so busy and tired I could barely tell the difference between day and night. Yet one day, after returning from the hospital, I accidentally discovered that my husband was having an affair with our mutual friend.”
She waited for things to blow over, but half a year later this “friend” openly asked Shuyun to give up on her marriage and let her husband go. Her husband stopped treating her kindly and began setting forth conditions for their divorce. This betrayal and collapse of trust stirred new and old resentment in Shuyun. “I was badly hurt, and placed the blame squarely at their feet. I penned out my grievances and my lawyer friend volunteered to help me with the lawsuit for free. But at this critical moment, I thought of Dafa and opened Zhuan Falun.”
Shuyun had a dramatic change in heart while reading Zhuan Falun. While recalling scenes from her married life, she realized that getting rid of her hatred and grudges was the only way to achieve calm and compassion. Shuyun said, “I almost sued them, but Dafa gave me great strength, and helped me eliminate my desire to save face and my human emotions. I felt like I was reborn.”
As she studied the Fa, Shuyun’s jealousy and resentment gradually melted away, and she eventually agreed to a divorce. Her jealousy and resentment over the betrayal of her husband and friend vanished, and she instead felt at peace with the world. According to Shuyun, Falun Dafa showed her the way out of her marital misfortune and gave her the strength to face her ordeal.
Predestined Relationship with Dafa
Having retired from public office, Shuyun serves as a mediator at a public agency. Despite the typically tense atmosphere between feuding parties, Shuyun faces each case with a tolerant and charitable mindset. “I tell them there is no right or wrong, only differences in opinions. I sometimes tell them that current situations may be due to factors from our past lives. If all parties are willing to take a step back and work toward reconciliation, it won’t be necessary to spend money and energy going to court. I also inform them that they will get a special little gift from me after the meeting.”
Many parties stopped arguing after hearing her words, curious about her little gift. “After each successful mediation, I presented everyone with a copy of the latest Minghui Weekly. If someone started asking if I practiced Falun Dafa, I would further introduce the practice to them. I know that all those whom I have connected with have a predestined relationship and may eventually come to learn Falun Dafa.
“There is a short passage in the book Journey to the West that says, 'It is difficult to obtain a human body, it is difficult to be born in China, and it is difficult to encounter a righteous Fa. Conversely, it is the greatest blessing to possess all three.' I possess all three requirements and count myself among the luckiest in this world. I sincerely hope everyone will not miss this rare opportunity that comes only once in many lifetimes.”
