London: Falun Dafa Practitioners Hold Grand Parade to Commemorate April 25 Peaceful Protest

April 21, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in England

(Minghui.org) Practitioners in the UK held a grand parade in the heart of London on April 19, 2025, to show people how peaceful and amazing Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) is. They also wished to expose the Chinese Communist regime’s brutal persecution of Falun Dafa over the past 26 years.

Practitioners held a grand parade in downtown London on April 19, 2025 to commemorate the April 25 peaceful protest.

The contingent passed through London’s busiest commercial area and Chinatown, ending opposite the Prime Minister’s residence on 10 Downing Street, where a press conference was held to call upon international society to pay attention to the brutalities and uphold human rights and freedom of belief.

Letters of Support from British Politicians

At a press conference held across from the Prime Minister’s residence, practitioners read letters of support received from UK politicians.

Nine politicians, including members from the country’s upper house and lower parliament, and human rights activists sent letters of support to Falun Dafa practitioners prior to the event.

Rosemary, spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Association in the UK, spoke at the press conference.

Rosemary, spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Association in the UK, recounted the persecution suffered by hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners since the April 25 protest in Beijing in 1999.

She pointed out that although the persecution is still taking place, the tide of justice is starting to turn. The US Congress reintroduced the “Falun Gong Protection Act” on March 3 of this year. The European Parliament passed a resolution on January 18 last year condemning the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong and called for concrete action to investigate and hold the CCP accountable for the atrocities.

Faced with the regime’s recent round of attacks on the spiritual practice, she said, “As a firm upholder of global human rights, we call on the British government to send out clearer, more powerful voices on this matter, and condemn the CCP’s violation of Falun Gong practitioners’ human rights and crimes of live organ harvesting.”

Ms. Han from China narrated her personal experience when she participated in the April 25, 1999 peaceful protest. She recalled that on that day, she and her mother went to Zhongnanhai in the morning and waited quietly outside. No one shouted slogans throughout the entire day, nor was there any chaos. The practitioners maintained order and showed the demeanor of cultivators.

Just three months later, the regime launched an all-out, illegal persecution. Ms. Han was subsequently arrested and sent to labor camps on multiple occasions for refusing to give up her faith. She was arrested the night before the 2008 Beijing Olympics and imprisoned once again in 2019. She came to the UK in 2023 after going through extended periods of persecution.

She said, “Years of persecution made me realize how precious freedom is.” She called on international society to pay attention to the brutal persecution suffered by Falun Gong practitioners for the past 26 years and hopes that more Chinese citizens will know the truth, abandon communism and choose a bright future for themselves.

John Dee, president of Friends of Falun Gong in Europe, spoke at the press conference.

John Dee, president of Friends of Falun Gong in Europe, said in his speech: “A quarter of a century has gone by, however the spirit shown by the protest on April 25, 1999 has never faded. Falun Gong practitioners continue to not have any pursuit of political power, they only hope to stand by their conviction of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance, practice cultivation peacefully and leave freely.”

He expressed admiration that even in the darkest days, practitioners continue to persist in their faith. He said, “This persistence is an important strength leading to Falun Dafa’s positive impact on the world and continuous popularity.”

He emphasized that, “Falun Dafa has brought deep, far reaching, positive influence on countless people’s souls, and words cannot measure this significance.”

He said with conviction, “We believe that such amazing power will bring about a turning point in human history ultimately, and completely conquer the darkness and suppression the CCP’s rule enforced on people for a long time.”

People Voice Support for Practitioners and Oppose the CCP’s Persecution

Many people stopped to watch, take photos, accept fliers and express support for Falun Gong practitioners as they passed by and throughout the whole event.

Eli believes, “Kindness will prevail over evil in the end, this is the law of history.”

Eli, a lecturer at Glasgow University, said he cannot accept the CCP’s 26-year long brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, “The CCP is shameful, I cannot accept this at all!”

He stressed the importance of peaceful protests, and said, “The more people there are in peaceful protests, the clearer their message to the government. This is not simply an individual, the voices of 100, 1000 people, it is the cries of thousands.”

He said, “Kindness will prevail over evil. This is the law of history. Empires rise and fall, yet ordinary citizens will always exist. Therefore, it is very important that people continue to pass on such messages, it affects our families, ancestors and the future of subsequent generations.”

He thought Falun Gong is “excellent” and believes the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance will make society better.

He said he visited China three times and noticed Chinese people seldom spoke of the government. They are often silent on the subject for fear of the CCP making things difficult for them, “But in England, in a democratic country, people have the right to protest. It is very important that you express your demands here, particularly outside No 10 Downing Street, or next to the Parliament.”

Léa (second left) and Célia (center) said, “This is a great thing to do for the whole of humanity.”

Léa, a designer from France, said, “I think your activity is great because this is a beautiful thing to do for the whole of humanity. I think it’s important to support this hence I support you.”

Célia, a student, said, “My thoughts are exactly the same as Léa.”

Carla (first on left) said, “Even if it is a protest, we can also do it through peaceful means. This says everything!”

Carla from Argentina works in the finance sector, and said, “I respect people like you from the bottom of my heart. You express yourself courageously, and show the world your conviction. Although it is a protest, we can do it using peaceful means. This says everything!”
