Retired Middle School Teacher Secretly Sentenced to Prison for Her Faith

(Minghui.org) A Jiayu County, Hubei Province resident has been secretly sentenced to four years for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org recently learned.

Ms. He Ping, a retired middle school English teacher, around 69, was arrested in April 2024 by officers from the Jiayu County Police Department. Her family were kept in the dark of her case status and they still don’t know where she is detained.

Since the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. He has been detained at least six times and had her home repeatedly raided by the police. She served three labor camp terms totaling nearly six years, including a 1.5-year term given in 2000, a 2-year term given on February 27, 2003, and a 2-year term following an arrest on July 23, 2008.

Ms. He was subjected to brutal torture while serving time at the Qilihu Forced Labor Camp, Shizishan Drug Rehab Center and the Hubei Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp. Once, four inmates took her to an empty corner; they stripped off her clothes, tugged on her nipples, pulled out her pubic hair, and struck her bones. She was forced to stand for hours until her legs were so swollen that she was unable to wear pants. When the inmates tried to force her to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong, they almost broke her fingers. As Ms. He remained firm in her faith, they fabricated a renunciation statement and forcibly grabbed her hand to fingerprint it.

Due to long-term detention, Ms. He lost the opportunity to develop her career and was unable to take care of her parents when they needed her the most. Her husband also divorced her.

Ms. He was arrested again in July 2010 and taken to the Hubei Province Legal Education Center, also known as the Banqiao Brainwashing Center. Her sister witnessed a male officer hit her hard on the head. After her sister told their mother about the incident, the 85-year-old woman stayed outside of the Civil Affairs Bureau to demand her release. Due to public pressure, the authorities released Ms. He forty days later.

Ms. He was arrested on May 30, 2016 for putting up Falun Gong posters and was again taken to the Hubei Province Legal Education Center.

A group of police officers descended on Ms. He’s home in two police cars at 9 a.m. on May 12, 2022. They raided her home and confiscated all her Falun Gong books.

The police arrived again on February 17, 2023 and again took away all her Falun Gong books. They carried her from the third floor to the police car, without allowing her to change clothes. As she was found to have two tumors in her lungs, Ms. He was denied admission by the Chibi Detention Center and released two days later.
