(Minghui.org) A Taicang City, Jiangsu Provincen resident was recently sentenced to one year and another Taicang resident is facing trial, both for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Qin Yanqiu, a 64-year-old former postal worker, was arrested at home on May 20, 2024 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her arrest was approved seven days later. She was later indicted by the Zhangjiagang City Procuratorate and tried by the Zhangjiagang City Court in late November 2024. Her family weren’t informed of the hearing and it took them much effort to confirm the hearing and her prison sentence. It’s not clear where Ms. Qin is currently detained.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Qin has been arrested seven other times, resulting in a forced labor term of three years and two prison sentences totaling eight years. In the labor camp, she was beaten, shocked with electric batons, forced to stand under the scorching sun all day long, not allowed to shower, and deprived of sleep.
The other practitioner who is facing trial, Mr. Wang Jian, 57, was arrested on August 11, 2024, by officers from the Taicang City Police Department. He was held at the Taicang City Detention Center and also indicted by the Zhangjiagang City Procuratorate.
Mr. Wang, who has a bachelor’s degree, began practicing Falun Gong in March 1997. He persisted in his faith after the persecution began two years later and was repeatedly targeted. Prior to his latest arrest, he was given one forced labor term and two prison terms totaling ten years.
