(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Shuifeng received a phone call in late April 2025, requesting house cleaning service from her. She went to the “client” location, only to be arrested there.
The “client” turned out to be the Jiujiang City Police Department in Jiangxi Province. They targeted the 60-year-old woman because of her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Zhu has since been held at the Jiujiang City Detention Center. Prior to her latest persecution, she has been arrested multiple times for her faith.
24 Days of Detention in 2009
Ms. Zhu distributed Falun Gong informational materials in April 2009 and was reported to police. About five officers arrested her at the hotel she was working at and interrogated her there. They handcuffed her behind her back and forced her to kneel. One officer stomped her on the back and another slapped her in the face twice. The police ate at the hotel and deducted the food expenses from her pay. They also raided her home that day and confiscated all of her Falun Gong books. They seized her cell phone and the over 200 yuan in cash that she had with her.
Ms. Zhu was taken to the Jiujiang City Detention Center the next day. She was forced to do hard labor and pay her food expenses. After 24 days, the police extorted 15,000 yuan from her family, which they had to borrow, and released her on bail.
The police often harassed Ms. Zhu and her family over the phone after she returned home.
Given One Year of Forced Labor in 2011
Ms. Zhu was arrested one night in February 2011, while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The arresting officers from the Liujiatang Police Station handcuffed and shackled her. They seized the 300 yuan in cash that she had with her. They shone a bright light on her at close range in an attempt to break her will and extract a confession. Her home was also raided. She was taken to the Jiujiang City Detention Center after 3 a.m. that day.
The police interrogated Ms. Zhu at the detention center every day and promised to release her as soon as she wrote statements to renounce Falun Gong. She refused, and the police ordered her family to pay 40,000 yuan in exchange for her release. Her family didn’t have money, and the police gave her one year of forced labor.
The guards at the Nanchang City Women’s Labor Camp attempted unsuccessfully to make Ms. Zhu’s husband divorce her. They ordered her to do hard labor without pay for long periods of time. The police often broke into her home to intimidate her husband and their son, deeply traumatizing them.
Another Arrest in 2023
Ms. Zhu was arrested on July 18, 2023 and detained for ten days.
Family’s Suffering
Ms. Zhu’s husband once had a good job, but was later laid off because of his wife’s faith.
With Ms. Zhu in detention and her husband often working out of town, their son was left with no one to care for him and he dropped out of school. The teen grew up in fear. He later didn’t even dare to sleep at home at night for fear of police coming to knock on their door again. He attempted suicide three times and was committed to a mental hospital at one point.
