Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province: More Than 20 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in One Day, at Least 13 Still in Detention

(Minghui.org) More than twenty local residents in three districts of Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, were arrested on May 10, 2025 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Captain Jiang Hao from the Longsha District Domestic Security Division led the mass arrest in his district, Tiefeng District and Jianhua District.

Most of the practitioners were interrogated at the Longhua Road Police Station in the Tiefeng District. The police also took photographed them and collected their fingerprints against their will. They were next taken to the Sanjiu Hospital for a physical examination. Those deemed unfit for detention were released on bail and put under close surveillance. The rest were taken to the Qiqihar City Detention Center.

It was apparent to the targeted practitioners that the police had been monitoring them for a long time before the mass arrest. The police were able to tell details of the practitioners’ daily activities, including what color of clothes they wore on a particular day and what places they visited and when. None of the officers produced a search warrant or revealed their identities during the arrests. Some gave fake names.

All the practitioners’ homes were raided, and their Falun Gong books were confiscated. The police also seized other valuables, including designer clothes and heirlooms.

The following is a partial account of the mass arrest on May 10.

Tiefeng District: 7 Still in Detention

Mr. Wang Liwei and his wife Ms. Huang Minxian were arrested at home after 6 a.m. on May 10, by officers from the Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Donghu Police Station. The police said that they followed the couple from May 4 to 9.

Prior to their latest arrest, the couple had been displaced for years to avoid being repeatedly persecuted for their faith. Ms. Huang worked as a custodian for Shuguang New City Community. Her supervisor commended her for doing a superior job and exempted her from regular inspections of her work. After she and her husband’s latest arrest, their granddaughter, who once developed depression due to their persecution, had a relapse of her condition. The couple is now held at the Qiqihar City Detention Center.

The Longsha Domestic Security Division conducted the arrest of Mr. Zhang Liqun and Mr. Gao Fuping. The Zhanqian Police Station was responsible for the arrest of Mr. Xie Wei. The three are now held at the Qiqihar City Detention Center.

Officers from the Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Guanggrong Police Station arrested Ms. Yang (first name unknown), Ms. Wu Xiaohong, and Ms. Hou Guilan. Ms. Yang was released on bail hours later due to her poor health and the other two women are detained at the Qiqihar City Detention Center.

Ms. Yang Min, nearly 70, had just pressed the elevator button in her apartment building after 8 a.m. on May 10, when a group of officers swarmed her. They seized her key and raided her home. She was denied admission to the Qiqihar City Detention Center after she was found to have high blood pressure. The police extorted 10,000 yuan from her family and released her on bail that night.

Ms. Yang’s latest arrest came shortly after the death of her older sister, Ms. Yang Jie, who died after suffering years of persecution for practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Sheng Yi, in his 70s, was shopping for groceries when he was arrested by officers from the Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Donghu Police Station. They snatched his key and raided his home. He developed high blood pressure in custody and was released on house arrest. He was previously fired from his teaching job for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Li Shunying was also arrested by officers from the Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Donghu Police Station. She was found to have a brain condition during the physical examination. The police ordered her family to pay 10,000 yuan in exchange for her release. Her loved ones managed to borrow 3,000 yuan and the police released her on bail.

Jianhua District: 2 Still in Detention

The Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Liming Police Station led the arrest of Mr. Xing Yanliang, while the home aide was caring for a bedridden patient.

Mr. Hong Yinguang was seized by officers from the Longsha Domestic Security Division and the Xinhua Police Station. Both men are held at the Qiqihar City Detention Center. The same officers also tried to arrest Ms. Yang Hong but she locked herself inside a room. The police arrested her husband instead, but have since released him.

Longsha District: At Least 4 Still in Detention

The Longsha Domestic Security Division, likely together with its subordinate the Caihong Police Station, conducted the arrests of Ms. Yang Shuqin, Mr. An Jingtao, Ms. Suo Ping, and a few other practitioners (names unknown) including an 88-year-old woman. The practitioners were taken to the Qiqihar City Detention Center.
