(Minghui.org) A 74-year-old Tianjin resident was admitted to the Tianjin Women’s Prison on May 9, 2025, to serve a two-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Liu Qiufang was arrested at another Falun Gong practitioner’s home on January 8, 2022 and later released on bail. She was arrested again on April 7, 2025, and taken to the Ninghe District Detention Center. The Ninghe District Court sentenced her at an unknown time.

Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Liu was targeted a few more times over the past 26 years for her faith. She was arrested in August 1999 and taken to a brainwashing center by officers from the Xiaoli Village Police Station and officials from the local township government.

Ms. Liu was taken to the brainwashing center again in November 2000, where she was subjected to brutal torture during the one-month detention. She was also extorted for 500 yuan.

Ms. Liu was arrested another time on the evening of September 3, 2004 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was briefly held at the Ninghe County Detention Center and then transferred to the Hangu District Detention Center, before being taken back to the Ninghe County Detention Center in December 2004. The Ninghe County Court sentenced her to 2.5 years on June 5, 2005.

While Ms. Liu was serving time at the Tianjin Women’s Prison, the guards instigated inmates Li Huiqin and Li Xuehua to beat her and force her to sit on a small stool for long hours without moving. Her left leg was severely injured and she was unable to walk for an unknown amount of time.

The local police continued to harass Ms. Liu after she was released.
