A Farmer Validates the Compassion and Wonder of Dafa

(Minghui.org) Meixiu is a farmer who experienced much misfortune in her early life. Happiness seemed to elude her. However, in the latter half of her life, a book became a treasure that quietly opened up a completely different life for her.

Hardship in Early Life

Meixiu was born in a small rural town in Yunlin County, China, and was the fifth of eight children. Due to her family’s poverty, she had to work in the fields planting rice, picking vegetables, and selling them when she was only eight, shouldering the burdens of life at an early age.

Working under the hot sun on a busy farm, the one thing Meixiu longed for was to quietly read and immerse herself in books during her breaks. However, she said, “My father said girls don’t need to read too much. Although I loved reading, I could only attend elementary school until sixth grade.” Reality did not allow Meixiu to choose her destiny. She sadly joked, “Because I’ve been farming all my life, my skin is so dark. My parents say I can only marry someone who is also a farmer.”

So, she followed her parents’ arrangements and married a farmer. Nevertheless, she loved reading, was hardworking, and was able to endure hardship; her husband, on the other hand, was illiterate and often indulged in gambling. Despite not receiving affection or care from her husband, she worked quietly for twenty years, tending to the family’s daily needs.

At the age of 21, while assisting her father-in-law with waterproofing the roof, Mei Xiu fell from a ladder to the ground, injuring her hip and back. With no one to care for her and no money to pay for hospital treatment, Mei Xiu had to endure the pain alone while continuing her work in the fields and managing household chores. However, after a few years, she swelled all over, making moving difficult. The doctor who examined her said, “One of your kidneys was damaged.”

The hardships of childhood, the disappointment of marriage, and now the anguish of living with an illness. Facing one obstacle after another in life, she did not complain about the unfairness of her fate. Instead, she turned the bitterness of life into daily labor, continuing to work despite feeling exhausted in body and mind.

Turning Point

It wasn’t until she turned fifty that reading a life-changing book quietly opened a new chapter in her turbulent life.

To help support her family, Meixiu worked on the farm, learned to be a caregiver, and sold herbal tea. One day, she saw a golden copy of Zhuan Falun on the bookshelf in one employer’s home. She borrowed the book and eagerly began reading it. After reading a few pages, she became increasingly captivated and couldn’t put it down.

Initially, she was still affected by the renal problem and had difficulty walking. After reading the book, all her symptoms disappeared.

Subsequently, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. In addition to providing attentive care to her patients, she always carried a copy of Zhuan Falun and read it to them daily.

Miracles in the Hospital

When an elderly gentleman was seriously injured in a car accident, he fell into a prolonged coma. Meixiu cared for him and read the Fa aloud to him daily. One day, the elderly gentleman suddenly opened his eyes and spoke, astonishing his son. Meixiu said, “Although unconscious, he listened to me reading to him daily. That is the power of Dafa.”

There was a primary school teacher with terminal breast cancer whose body was covered in sores. The doctor said she only had two months to live. Meixiu read the Fa to her every day, and two months later, the patient made a miraculous recovery and was discharged from the hospital. Meixiu said, “I enjoyed reading it, and she enjoyed listening to it. This precious book is truly magical.”

The years she spent reading to patients in the hospital made Meixiu deeply realize that this book could not only change her destiny but also illuminate the lives of others.

Cabbages Beget a Fa-Study Place

Since 2004, the director of the local library in Minxiong, Chiayi, has provided a room for Falun Dafa practitioners to study the Fa together in the evenings. He did this for seven uninterrupted years. After he retired in 2011, the new director did not renew the lease, forcing the group to be unable to study the Fa together.

When Meixiu learned what had happened, she felt an emptiness inside. She thought, “How can there be no place to study such a great Fa? It would be good if there were a stable Fa study site.”

Meixiu’s wish was soon granted. That winter, she and her husband planted an acre of watermelons, followed by cabbages. Due to continuous heavy rains, most farmland could not be prepared for planting. However, her family’s land was elevated and had solid soil, allowing them to harvest two crops, and resulting in a bountiful income of two million yuan. This was an unexpected blessing for a farmer who had spent her entire life in poverty.

Meixiu promptly used the money to build a 25-square-foot study hall. Since 2013, this hall has been a reliable venue for studying the Fa in Minxiong. Fa-study has been held there daily at noon and in the evening for over ten years without interruption.

More Lives Renewed

A truck driver was diagnosed with lung cancer. One of his lungs had been removed, while the other was covered in tumours. Every time the doctor examined him, he shook his head and said, “Get ready to undergo chemotherapy.” Meixiu encouraged him to attend the noon Fa study class, even if he only sat and listened.

So he began practicing the exercises in the morning and studying the Fa at noon. Three months later, when he returned for a follow-up assessment, the doctor was astonished to find all the spots on his remaining lung had disappeared. Confused, the doctor asked him, “What medicine did you take?” He smiled and said, “I didn’t take any medicine. I’ve been practicing Falun Dafa.”

Also, there was a woman who experienced complications after undergoing treatment for an illness that left her unable to stand. She called Meixiu and expressed her desire to learn Falun Dafa.

Meixiu took her to the practice site every day, rain or shine. After six months, the woman could stand on her own and even bought an electric scooter, which she used to drive to the practice site.

Elevation of Body and Mind

When Meixiu first started practicing Dafa, she often felt a warm flow of energy coursing through her body from head to toe, as if she were being washed clean. Only later did she learn this was guanding [a form of body purification].

As she practiced further, she found it easier to attain tranquility. She also began to feel like she was inside an eggshell when meditating. She said, “When I sit and practice, it feels like my feet and hands no longer exist. Only one thought remains, and the entire space becomes bright and quiet.”

As the years passed, her cultivation transcended mere physical improvement, resulting in a profound transformation of her heart. In the past, when confronted with her unreasonable husband and her difficult-to-approach in-laws, she always suppressed and endured the pain in her heart.

After practicing, she understood that nothing happens by chance and that many conflicts had contributed to her xinxing improvement. She said, “I just love learning the Fa, and every time I read it, a lot of bitterness in my heart, a lot of knots in my heart, just melt away.”

For four years, she took care of her father-in-law, who had suffered a stroke. Bedridden and stubborn, he relied on her for his daily care. Meixiu said, “I treated him with the kindness of a practitioner, read the Fa to him every day, and didn’t argue with him about anything.” Thanks to her dedication and patience, he recovered from being bedridden to being able to walk and ride a bicycle.

Her husband had always strongly opposed her practicing Falun Dafa. Whenever she was going out to tell people facts about Falun Dafa or participate in activities, he would curse at her, lose his temper, and try to stop her. She learned not to feel upset when this happened. When her husband cursed at her, she remained calm and unruffled. Meixiu said, “Practitioners of Falun Dafa must practice truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. I don’t hold a grudge against him.”

Gradually, her husband changed and even began to support her. She said, “Sometimes, without me asking, he takes the initiative to help me prepare things, tells me to leave early, and even tells others that his wife hasn’t been angry since she started practicing Falun Dafa many years ago.”

Looking back on her life, Meixiu said sincerely, “I am truly grateful to Master Li. Sometimes, when I think about it, I still shed tears. That is why I must cultivate myself well and return home with Master.”

Meixiu’s fate was transformed from the moment she opened Zhuan Falun and resolved to cultivate, which set her on the path of returning to her true self. This path is compassionately and brightly unfolding for everyone who believes in Dafa and strives to be good.
